I think most see this as a opprtunity to "downsize the govt." and a very wimpy inaffectual "leader"

At last a thread I can post on and say I agree with you!

Why do you want the Rats to have the majority in the senate when appointing judges is so important to our cause.

I agree with you. It's amazing to see how many ignoramuses have come out of the closet on this website. People wanting Tom DeLay to be SML, etc. Alot of the "Lott has to go" crowd on this website and in neocon journals are the people that personally don't like Trent Lott and this is a way of showing him the door. Objectivity has been totally lost from posters on this website to Jonah Goldberg in National Review.

Good rant!
I'm certainly no Kool-Aid drinking Lottbot.
I think Dubya should address the issue, just like the 'Rats are calling for.
First, he should express his empathy for those who may have truly been offended by Lott's gaffe.
Next he should objective observe that Lott was merely honoring a 100 year-old-man on his birthday, and has sufficiently apologized for to those he may have inadvertently offended.
Finally, he should express extreme sadness that there are still those who are so emotionally disturbed and twisted by this event, that they can't see past their own bigotry and hatred to accept the gracious apology that Lott has extended.

I'm not disgusted with our fellow freepers attitude, doing the right thing, even if it costs you, is usually a noble gesture.
Except when it comes to politics.
Do you honestly think if the situation were reversed the rats would call on one of their own to resign?
In fact, when have you EVER HEARD of a rat calling for another one to resign?
Instead of apologizing, Lott ought to be calling for the real racists in the Senate, Hollings and Byrd, to step down.
He should get up and say that he will resign when they do and tell the rats and the media to go to hell.

Daschle as the majority leader would finish America off.
To: rmmcdaniell
Lott should tell the rats where to stuff it!

Lott is a loser, (not for the remark), but he is our loser and we need him. Wars are fought by heros, patriots, fools and cowards. If we fight only with heros, we are finished.

Lott's comment was not a 'mistake'. He simply expressed a view that no one in the 'mainstream' media or political establishment and, sadly, not even most of FReepers have the guts to discuss or debate.
It is sad indeed.
To: rmmcdaniell
I agree that Lott should remain in the Senate--just not as Majority Leader. We should be able to find someone better than Lott.
I believe you are exaggerating if you meant to suggest that very many FReepers feel that Lott should resign from the Senate.

Lott's comments were not a gaff or a mistake. His comments were a purposeful attempt to shore up his support amoungst his contituency, many of whom perceive him as too liberal.
