Look at the photo and read the caption. Do you notice Reuters' sly way of painting all Republicans with a broad brush. This photo was taken at the White House, not at the event where Sen. Lott made the cause-celebre statement. Also, notice how the caption slyly alters Lott's remarks to make it seem that he openly and literally said the nation would be better off if a segregationist had won the presidency in 1948.
CAPTION: President George W. Bush is accompanied by his father former President George H. W. Bush, Sen. Trent Lott and Thurmond's daughter Julie Thurmond Whitmer during Sen. Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday party at the White House, December 6, 2002. Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle demanded 'a fuller explanation and apology' from Lott on Dec. 11 for saying, during a birthday event for Thurmond on Capitol Hill, that the nation would have been better off if segregationist candidate Strom Thurmond had won the presidency in 1948. by the WAY...
COULTER AND KEYES FOR PRESIDENT(S)..IN ANY ORDER
I hope everybody likes that soundbite. Because we can "explain" till we're blue in the face, but if we keep defending Lott, we're gonna be hearing it for a lonnnnnnnnnng time.
I say it's not worth losing the whole Republican agenda over him, no matter what other high-minded motives we might have.
Lott expresses regret for remarks; court filing from 1981 surfaces
Amen. Between now and '04 the Demoncrats will be scouring every statement (written and spoken) of every National Republican/Conservative office-holder and leader, looking for any phrase, slip of the tongue (Freudian or otherwise)or ambiguity that can remotely be twisted into "racism, sexism, homophobia" or simply "insensitivity" to the plight of the handicapped, poor, Senior Citizens, etc. And Big Media, which is beginning to feel guilty about not letting the Left "get it message out" will provide them the platform, and audio-visual support. To paraphrase Ben Franklin, the Republicans need to hang together, or they will all hang separately.
I have lost ALL respect for Brit.

Well said--
I for one am sick of it. The left's chief weapon is constructing double standards allowing their side to do whatever they want, lie, cheat, demogogue, racebait, spew hate, slime and slander, but our side can't even get a parking ticket.
I don't care if a Lott is a bad leader I am sick of feeding PC lynch mobs and double standards. Its up to US to decide oif he should go, its not for Maxine the ugly racebating witch and her SEGREGATED caucus of hate to decide. Newt, Bork, Livingston, Will their hunger be abated if we give them one more? Who the F*^% would be dumb enough to believe that?

Response--the democratic party knows full well Lott is no racistor segregationist, but because they have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO OFFER that the public is interested in, they have to engage in race baiting and smear politics.
All the while throwing stones all through their glass houses--ignoring Byrd the klansman, ignoring Al Gore's dad the segregationist, ignoring Al Sharpton's helping burn and kill whites at Freddy's and lead the crown heights riots exhorting blacks to kill Jews. Jesse Jackson's spitting on white people's food and Hymie town. Carl Levins praise of Strom Thurmond, Clinton's calling two rabid segregationists his greatest mentors. And so much more....
This is a golden opportunity to bury the libs even lower. Sadly it is being missed.
Newt, Livingston, Bork, a slew of judges, how many more scalps are we going to offer up to the libs before they are appeased?
kAcknor Sez:
Absolutely not! Lott should be "sacrificed" because of the multiple spinal-spheroidalectomys that had failed to give him anything resembling a backbone and noticeable male genitalia. I thought that maybe the last one had finally taken when I heard he had called for troops on the borders during an O'Reily interview, but alas, nothing came of it.
Rush had a caller today that made sense. The 'rats may not wish him totally gone, just wounded badly. They know they can "roll" him on just about any issue so why trade that for somebody who may be more effective? Most of us know that we would be better off with a stronger Senate Leader; it's the "why" of the matter that sticks. I don't like the reason at all. But it's a case of life giving us lemons, and dam*it, I'd rather have lemon-aid.
