And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

He was right with all those people who died, and He is waiting for all the survivors to turn to Him and trust Him.

Faith comes from God. If you want faith ,pray for it.Pray for wisdom. By the way, calling someone a holy roller isn't an insult.

Thankfully, You were not chosen to be Abraham.

Can't you be grateful for the 47,000? Can't you thank God for that?

Have you ever read the Bible? You ingrate.Every breath you take is given to you by the grace of God.He created you not vice-versa.Who are you to judge God? He is so complicated that he is well beyond your understanding.Check your ego and your arrogance. The picture is much bigger than you can imagine yet you arrogantly think you can imagine.God has seen the past and the future. It's about eternity not a short life span on earth.

"My faith is very weak. Need help building it but always come up short."
We can't drum up faith by ourselves. Ephesians 2:8 tells us faith is a gift from God. My faith came only after consistently praying for God to grant me this spiritual gift.

Omnipotent means God has unlimited power and authority. This doesn't mean he uses it. He doesn't have to use it.If you have read the old testament and know the story God considers Abraham rightous because he always had faith that God was good. He believed God. Abraham demonstrated his faith by his obedience. Adam and Eve didn't. Obviously God wouldn't think Abraham rightous if Abraham didn't have free will.

Thanks Delbert. I've already shared it with folks on my e-mail list.

Sinful people who fell from God's grace as a result of their own bad choices and misuse of the free will God gave us all are responsible for all these maladies.
And if it were up to you, there would be no cancer and death and pain. But, clearly, it is NOT up to you. We made our choice a long time ago in the Garden of Eden, and we are suffering the consequences of our own choices.
Listening to you, it is apparent not much has changed since then. Fall on your knees and pray. That's what I do. It is our only hope.

The God I know, if he chooses, he would have stopped this whole thing from its start. He would have messed with Al Qaeida and its leaders. However, I think God chooses not to get into our stupid mindless behaviors. It is like a poor guy praying to win the lottery, and a rich guy, without praying wins it! I rather don't bring God into this. I think God has left us a code of ethics to follow, and at the end, he will judge the good guys and the bad guys.
If Jesus really wants to defend the weak and the defenseless on earth, he would have stopped the slaughter of millions of Christians in Sudan.
To: philosofy123
Jesus was Himself slaughtered in as agonizing a manner as is humanly possible, and
He was
without sin.
To pretend that any sinful human being is deserving of better than Jesus got from a pack of slavering, murderous scumbags is patently ridiculous.
The Bible takes great pains to warn us that those of us who choose to be followers of Christ can expect the world to scorn us, to persecute us, and in many cases, to kill us. The events in the Sudan only give additional truth to this Biblical prediction.
Christians willingly take up Christ's cross, and are as pleased to die for His sake as He was to die for ours. It is only those who do not know Christ or who choose not to understand The Bible who cannot fathom these truths, or the Eternal Glory contained therein.

Well said. I still agonize a lot over the murder of millions of Christians (between 1990-2002) by the hand of the barbaric Moslem Sudanese regime. Actually, that is exactly what Moslems dream about doing all over the world. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I TOTALLY agree with you that it is our RESPONSE to bad things happening that is important....like welcoming a not-so-wanted child......an illness.....a financial setback...etc. Thanks for the reminder!

Hey Newbie...Freepers discuss ALL things and draw inspiration and knowledge from all quarters. No! Really?
I'm quite aware of that, thanks. My point was not whether it should be a topic or not, but where it most appropriately belonged.
Sorry that wasn't more clear.
