Republicans on Capitol Hill and conservatives in Washington and around the country are discussing how best to call for Trent Lott's stepping aside as Senate Majority Leader.
According to a knowledgeable Senate source, GOP members of both houses are extremely concerned that Lott's comments have so derailed the momentum gained from the 2002 elections that it would be impossible come January to make numerous confirmations for the executive branch, begin planning a legislative agenda that includes accelerating the Bush tax cuts and pushing through a prescription drug plan for seniors.
Even more upsetting to Republicans is that realization that Lott's comments may make it virtually impossible to bring a number of potentially controversial judicial nominations to the Senate floor successfully.

He can wait until Haley Barbour can name his successor.

LOL Tom DeLay for majority leader. Now that would tick off the liberals. I like that one.

So anytime the Dems use the "R" word the Republicans scramble to appease them? It's time the Repub's "got a pair".

DeLay, Ron Paul, and J.C. Watts are all in the House of Reps, and would thus be unable to take over the Senate leadership.

"If he is allowed to remain in a leadership position, the entire Republican party--including Bush--will be tarred with the same racist brush... Lott must go."And therein lies the answer. Right or wrong, Lott has given the Clymers and Rats a divisive distraction to attack the entire party. He should step down now. For the party and the country. That the White House is not stepping in is quite telling too. Lott is toast and I say good riddance....

Lott serves at the will of our party and its representatives in the Senate. We have the right to ask for his removal if he isn't representing our party well. He can stay a senator-- we aren't trying to nullify his re-election from Mississippi.

The Senior Senator from Oklahoma . . .Agreed, Nickles would be great. If the choice is from Oklahoma's two senators tho, my choice would be Jim Inhofe. This guy has a pair.

I remember that! Trent apparently has no clue, he also has no taste in hats as well.

I also think Bill Frist would be an excellent choice for Majority Leader. Anyone but another laywer/legislator.

This isn't an issue of winning black votes. It's simple: do we want an idiot and possible pro-segregationist as our leader in the Senate. My answer is "no."

For Clown?

J.C. Watts Jr...
Yeah, 'cept for the pesky fact that he isn't a senator, and leaves congress next month when his term ends.
To: BibChr
Lott DEFINITELY should step aside...
...but not for this!
This is the last straw. Between his goofy endorsement of the Dixiecrats, repeated according to Drudge, his ambiguous relationship with the CCC, and his rolling over on the Clinton impeachment, he is no longer an asset to the party IMHO. Apparently he is a person who thinks he can change his persona depending on who is in the room with him.

We needed to get out in front of this one. We didn't, and now the Judicial nominations are the price we will pay.
To: Geezerette
I know. Too bad. He got fed up with the GOP and their lack of commitment for black issues.

Is Kaye Bailey fairly conservative?
She would look great on TV, just like Rick Santorum..
