He said he would see the government maintain by constitutional means, and that, he aimed to do.

By bombarding their towns and taking away their right of a jury trial? Good heavens! By all means let's keep the Maryland state legislature from meeting, shell their cities, and violate our duty to guarantee a republican form of government to the unwashed so we can ensure the government is maintained by constitutional means. Right, Walt. Good thing they only arrested the duly, and lawfully, elected state representatives to get the vote they wanted. If they hadn't, we "neo-rebs" would have something else you would have to twist and dance to explain away.

The letter to General Scott you snipped specifically says that the legislature be allowed -to- meet. Who are you trying to fool? Did you blush when you saw the unedited letter?

Traitors need to be dealt with when they commit treason. Stop wailing and whining about it.

You obviously don't have a clue of the history.

The Maryland legislature declined to support secession in April. No arrests were made of legislators. The disloyal legislators (not the whole legislature as is alleged on some neo-reb websites) were not arrested until September.

...taking away their right of a jury trial?

When cases of rebellion or invasion exist, the Constitution allows this.

Stop making excuses for traitors.
