After a fiery speech by Thurmond at a Mississippi campaign rally for Ronald Reagan in November 1980, Lott, then a congressman, told a crowd in Jackson: "You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today."

Or nuke Texas..forever...you're actually more of a twit than your other statist Texas GOP'er (regardless of the GOP candidates politics).

I think your mask is slipping. What was that about being a GOP activist again?

"I think your mask is slipping."

This could end up looking like a repeat of the Hindenburg

Poohbah no one is attacking you personally and it is not like you to do it either.

Had me fooled! I see some irrational reactions here.

Yes, regardless, Lott has become a GOP drum that conservatives will be beaten with ad naueum. The fact that I lobbied against Lott and don't care for him energizes me because I knew it was only a matter of time before the time bomb went off...and better than now than in the middle of the (hopefully) conservative GOP agenda. Lott has made enemies because of his character failures, both left and right. That's his problem, not my problem. He had very little political capital with which to expend and blew it in a stupid way.

Only those who insist on proclaiming their ignorance in public, like you just did.

Your brilliance is NOT showing, contrary to your thinking.

Lott is not an effective leader , so if he resigns his leadership post..it will be good for the republicans in the senate. However, if he resigns from the senate ..he will be replaced by a RAT....then CHAFEE WILL JUMP SHIP>>>>.

Republicans have to be careful here...or Senate will go RAT ..

But if Lott goes, who replaces him? Here's an idea: how about letting Jim Jeffords become Majority Leader, provided he becomes a Republican again? It stands to reason he'd be very acceptable to the Democrats.

Nah. The dims will quite down for sure after Hitlery! is elected Senate leader. Better keep your day job :O)

"Who the hell cares what you want?"

Not you. Oh well, I'll recover and make the most of the remaining years God grants me.

"If I had my way he would stand up and say "go to hell" to the poverty pimps and race whores."Yeah, that would have been nice, but Lott isn't wired that way. His inflatable spine is broken.

BTW, what's it like being a crotchity old fool? I fully expect your reply to be pulled, so bang away...

Lott's a moron. He single handedly gave RATS an issue. And he's the next GOP Senate Majority Leader?

Twenty-two years ago, Trent Lott, then a House member from Mississippi, told a home state political gathering that if the country had elected segregationist candidate Strom Thurmond to the presidency "30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today." The phrasing is very similar to incoming Senate Majority Leader Lott's controversial remarks at a 100th birthday party for Thurmond last week..

Frankly, what you think moves me not. There are many Republicans that aren't worthy of receiving my vote, but have, and I am constantly rethinking my blind support of the GOP every day. The lesser of two evils is getting rather old. The 'Patriot' Act comes to mind. Pure rubbish.

For a so-called long time GOP activist who has no problem condemning people on this thread who resort to personal attacks!!!!! You certainly don't practice what you preach.

Democrats may be forced to shut down operations as a party and re-enter politics under a different name. The party formerly known as "the Democratic Party" will henceforth be doing business under the name "the Abortion Party."

That would have the virtue of honesty. Love of abortion is the one irreducible minimum of the Democratic Party. Liberals don't want to go to war with Saddam Hussein, but they do want to go to war to protect Roe v. Wade.

Inasmuch as George Bush rather than Barbra Streisand will be picking our federal judges, even now liberals are sharpening their character assassination techniques. People for the American Way – representing Americans up and down the Malibu beachfront – are already lining up lying Anita Hills to accuse Bush's judicial nominees of lynching blacks and burning crosses.
