Lott is not an effective leader , so if he resigns his leadership post..it will be good for the republicans in the senate. However, if he resigns from the senate ..he will be replaced by a RAT....then CHAFEE WILL JUMP SHIP>>>>.
Republicans have to be careful here...or Senate will go RAT ..

I heard someone suggest that Lott should be publicly voted out as leader by the Republicans as a way for the party to distance itself from him. Don’t let him resign as either Leader or Senator but replace him as Leader.
