After a fiery speech by Thurmond at a Mississippi campaign rally for Ronald Reagan in November 1980, Lott, then a congressman, told a crowd in Jackson: "You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today."

I was in Mississippi last feb. The people I ran into do not even acknowledge slavery. I toured a mansion and the tour guide, who worked for the state, said it was good for the economy.

"No, I'm demanding that he step down from leadership in favor of someone with some testicular fortitude."

Oh Sure, We should all refuse to show any "Testicular Fortitude" by siding with the race baiting liberals in order to have a majority leader who has "Testicular Fortitude" but he is powerless because the other 50 republicans are ball less

Why should the GOP give up power with a slim majority?

It's fine with me to see another leader elected in January. Under no condition can Lott quit the senate.

And, FWIW, we have this. Maybe Lott needs to have a nice little chat with Russert or something for about an hour, and clear it all up.

If I lived in Mississippi, I'd expect Lott to spend more time between now and 2006 showing me why he should be re-elected than in being Majority Leader.

TRAITOROUS

You're like a kid with a thesaurus.

Hell, maybe you ARE a kid with a thesaurus.

I know, I know. Lott was a traitor because he didn't allow an impeachment hearing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!

Do you know that your boy Schippers blames the US government under George W. Bush for 9/11? He, personally, was told about it before it happened.

If you're basing your opinion of impeachment on a conspiracy-loving Democrat lawyer, then you've been snookered.

I agree with you totally - Lott has to explain himself and apologize again.

I don't think he should resign the Senate - unless he comes out and proves he is a racist, which I don't think (hope) he is.

But I do think that it perhaps is time for someone else to be Majority Leader - and not because I'm mad about impeachment.

If that makes the Dems smell blood and try to get him out of the Senate, well, they are going to do that no matter what we do, so the Republicans should do whatever is best for us, and maybe that's a new Majority Leader.

Lott hasn't always shown a great deal of public political savvy. Maybe he can get along with many on the other side of the aisle, but it always seems like that when it comes to good (conservative/Republican) legislation getting passed, its the House or the President that ends up with the credit, not him.

Maybe he's gotten a bad rap for that too. But if he hasn't been able to disspell his many doubters on the right on this issue, how's he going to be able to get out of this new controversy?

Sorry. Lott's stupidity doesn't excuse him, and neither does yours.

"Know It All," is everybody who disagrees with you "stupid?" Only in your mind.

I think your obvious dislike for Lott clouds your objectivity and gives you what you think is extra-sensory abilities to read the minds of others.

I dislike equally to Lott, the "thought police" and people like you who go around with the ability to read the minds of others. Lott said a dumb thing, I agree, but what he was or was not thinking is beyond your comprehension. You can read into it what you like but it doesn't make you correct. Just guessing!

I am an Independent Conservative Constitutionist Christian (ICCC) and have voted a straight GOP ticket for as long as I can remember. I have worked for select GOP candidates in the roles of: Congressional Campaign Management, Top 100 GOP Fundraiser, Grassroots Activist, etc.

Trent Lott is committed to Trent Lott, not to leading a thriving, resilient and effective CONSERVATIVE GOP led Senate. He hands more issues and power to his detractors and liberals/communists than any other GOP'er I've ever been around during years and years working in politics.

Only those who insist on proclaiming their ignorance in public, like you just did.

You won't mind if I don't take your word for that will you? Your posting history does not support that claim since I can't find a kind word you have written about anyone in the GOP yet.
