LOTT SAID IT BEFORE (Drudge Siren)
Drudge ^ | 12/10/02 | Drudge

Posted on 12/10/2002 6:58:42 PM PST by walrus954

After a fiery speech by Thurmond at a Mississippi campaign rally for Ronald Reagan in November 1980, Lott, then a congressman, told a crowd in Jackson: "You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today."

Yup. Clinton showed more brains then than Lott is now.

That's pathetic...

Who said it was "okay"?! Just proving a point...that Democrats are hypocrites. I think the saying goes something like...sweep around your own door before you try to sweep around mine.

Yes, I am. While they are not technically white, they are not black, and aren't consolation to a constituency that makes up nearly a fifth of this country. Point taken, though.

Lott is a friggin idiot - he let Jeffords jumped ship and not even knowing about it ahead of time (Jeffords is part of the singing senators gig lott, ashcroft, jeffords and craig? - suppose to be fairly close buddies)...

Lott really put the 2004 election in a real jam - the wellstone memorial energized the reps all over the country on nov 5th, 2002...and friggin Lott's comment is gonna replay and replay and replay in political ads in 2004...I can imagine all those black n white slow motion pics with lott on one side, bush on the other - the same ole newt/dole tactic. Every political party needs some scary boogie persons - the Rats have the klintons, the plastic gore...and now we have friggin Lott...

time for lott to set aside of the leadership post, time to put a new face for the party - a more competent, kinder and gentler face...i dont want Nickles, McConnell blah blah - these two are not good on tv...I strongly prefer Frist - afterall, i bet healthcare will be a big issue in 2004 and one that bush could pre-empt the demorats' adv. - Frist engineered the most successful midterm senatorial election in over a generation, being an MD himself, very articulate, let alone good on tv, and relatively young. Frist has the southern roots but definitely non-threatening - very hard to make an open-heart surgeon a boogie man...

time for bush whitehouse to wakeup and gracefully engineer an exit for that idiot from mississippi...

we better cut the knees off from lott now before he becomes the symbol of the national republican party...

sometimes i really wonder why the reps elect some of these idiots - lott has me wonder if he is a closet racist - just like kkk byrd - then there is friggin pete wilson of california - look at the gop over cali - never recovers since the wilson 1994 campaign...time for the gop to clean house, throw these idiots off the party or else every bit of goodwill gwb accumulates will be undone by the comments from the fringe idiots.

Even if he has to go, your argument only means he has to go before the 2004 election, or maybe the 2003 elections. A way could be found, in a few months, to move him tactfully to some noncontroversial position, hopefully only after MS elects a Republican governor next year.

If he goes now, that empowers PC, and speech codes, and race baiters.

Sadly, you're right. Even though my wife is black, I STILL regularly get called a racist by acquaintences because I'm a white conservative.

Robert George on NRO made the comment earlier tonight, equating Republicans on race to Democrats on national security. Because they're perceived to be weak on the issue, every small problem is magnified.

My stick-in-the-mud morality has cost me much...except my self-respect.

Well, cuddle up with your Sheila Jackson Lee picture at night.

Your "self-respect" is entangled with some kind of politically correct white guilt.

Trent Lott was just trying to pay a tribute to an old man!

Your "morality" and those of your mindless cohorts here are putting at risk conservative judges and economic growth.

For what? To keep a bunch of race pimps happy, race pimps who would grind you down and take everything you have in the name of racial equality.

Lott's insistence on being Leader (or he will take his ball and go home) is *why* Republicans are damaged.

Republicans are held to a higher standard--mostly because they espouse a higher standard.

Then you must believe that Lott is a racist

All-white? Aren't you ignoring Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Daniel Inouye, Daniel Akaka?

Or Carol Mosley-Braun or Edward Brooke? Hell, don't forget Jewish members; ten of those currently.

But see your wasting your breath. This pinhead isn't going to let inconvenient facts get in the way of trite lefty cliches like the Senate being an "all-white club." Just makes him feel so much better about himself to project that he cares more about "those people" than us knuckle-dragging Freepers.

How simple can this be made for people? And if Lott not only steps down but leaves, are we really worse off in the big picture? I mean, yes, I worked *VERY* hard and diligently to assist the GOP take back a Senate seat and would hate to throw one back if Lott not only resigns but acts like a big, stupid, selfish baby and quits...but Lott is a millstone around the neck of the GOP and it's future.

You're telling them that they had no business trying to muscle Jihad Cindy out of office.

I am not saying anything of the sort, all I'm saying is that like it or not we ALL have the right to express our opinions, and we all have the right to disagree with everyone elses opinions, just don't slam the man for doing what we ALL do anyway. Who gives a rat's @$$ as to the person's station in life.

I'm telling you that you're full of shhhhaving cream.

If you want to lower this to the level of name calling, fine, then you are just demonstrating your ignorance. You have nothing to prove but your point for your point's sake. You have failed to look at the bigger picture here, and are imposing your own Political Correctness on someone else. Physician heal thyself.

"Watch this Lott thing, I think it has legs"

It only has legs because the liberal Media WANTS it to have legs. I haven't seen the media work so hard in years! Now that the democrats have lost control, the media has to REALLY work to get the story out that THEY want to tell. I can't believe that not even one journalist tried to find out who fathered Monica Lewinsky's aborted baby. What a story. Could it be that the media didn't want Clinton implicated and therefore it wasn't considered newsworthy? Media bias is a serious problem.
