This entire situation is absolutely ludicrous -- Lott's rather silly statement is being twisted to have a "hidden" racist meaning -- how can these people KNOW that's what he "really" meant -- even after he's said he didn't mean anything like this. Maybe he meant that Strom was such a pain in the butt that it would have been better to have him as President for a few years -- then we wouldn't have had to put up with him in the Senate for almost 50 years !

Both Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh have put forth MULTIPLE examples of Democrats embracing former segregationists (even electing/ honoring them) Clinton and Gore have both done this -- Gore's father voted (and/or filibustered) against a civil rights bill -- never a PEEP from the black caucus about this tho' -- the hypocrisy is mind-numbing

Look -- I don't care for Lott as Senate Leader -- but I PRAY he doesn't resign over this -- these idiots are dragging him and his reputation thru' the mud hysterically and unfairly and they should NOT win

Yeah, there was some idiot on TV last night talking about some kind of evil "code words" that Republicans use when they discriminate. I was ROTFLMAO!

Pardon me for raining on the parade, but doesn't Lott at least owe SOME explanation for what his words meant?

They DID sorta sound racist, and I for one am curious.

Anyway, Lott has no one to blame but his own stupid self.

While I am sure that Lott was referring to race, it is true it was never said. He could have been easily referring to the rise in federal power over states which was ALSO a main plank of the Dixiecrat Party with the Negro the ready focus.
Additionally, the Black Caucus said they would have a resolution and would develope options for Lott to follow, some "apology" that would satisfy THEM. [Personally, I don't care if they are satisfied or not...they don't apologize to me for their "hurtful" remarks].I suggest that at this point, Lott shut up and refuse to play their game. They have no other recourse. They want him to crawl to their meeting and roll over. I suggest that he walk in and tell them to shove it.
Now, does Lott have the spine? I sure hope so.
