I got one. :) It's a beautiful card with a lovely psalm inside. I consider it an honor to get this card, and I'm thankful President Bush won back the Senate.

This type card is the same as all businesses send yearly. Apparently you have not worked in an office. We did not pick one with a religious theme - but one that reflects the "spirit" of Christmas. Just look at the Christmas cards a corporation sends to it customers - they are not religous just beautiful cards.

Looks like you just want to again find something to whine about. Now - my religion does not celebrate Christmas in the religious tone BECAUSE we are not given the date of Christ's birth and therefore Christmas Day is not the day Christ was born. Yet, we definitely believe in Jesus and honor Him as our saviour.

Looks like you want the President to create havoc with a Christmas card. Just how does a Christmas card NOT mentioning Jesus but giving wishes for the holidays mean that the White House is anti-Jesus?

Get a life!!!

He doesn't have to know. Christmas is typically American. If someone doesn't celebrate it, they just need to blip over it. The whole country is celebrating Christmas. Just ask any retailer. Watch TV. Read the newspaper. It's Christmas.

He tried not to offend and he offended. That's what happens when you are wishy-washy.

You imply intolerance by expecting GWB to send out cards stating Merry Christmas, when in fact there are many in this nation who don't believe in Jesus Christ.

He DID wreak havoc with a "holiday" card.

Get a life!!!

Get a Christmas!!!

I have the feeling that Christ would be much more tolerant of his White House Christmas card than many people on this forum.

Oh, by the way, as far as Christmas being typically American, does that mean that Jesus was born in Nebraska?

wreak havoc

surely you are joking? there can't be more than a few crybabies upset over this perceived outrage. My goodness, are we so hard up for things to be upset about now that THIS is a slight?

He did not offend.

Looks like you, too, are playing the "PC" game.

So, you do not accept any cards in your house as a Christmas wish unless they mention Jesus, Christmas, have a tree or somethin? Do you contact the sender and complain as you have here? They would be thrilled to take you off their card list I feel sure.

Here is the "official" 1995 card with a swell Christmas tree. It made me feel ever-so-much-more Christmasy, you know:

Here is their 1992 Card, again with a Christmas tree, so we know that they are really Christians:

Neither greeting has a scripture quote, because of course, as I stated earlier, President and Mrs. Bush were the FIRST to put a scriptural quote on their card. However, that doesn't count, because, after all, they don't have a CHRISTMAS tree on their card.

Some people no doubt would like "Bah, humbug!" on the card, since that is apparently their mind-set.

I do not presume to guess what God thinks. But he said "If you deny me, I will deny you".

Christmas is not just a religious holiday. I celebrated it when I was an atheist.

Plenty of people are/will be offended by Bush ignoring the obvious Christmas holiday in favor of McHolidays.

We are mostly offended because the President decided to "play it safe". He went out of his way to avoid using the word "Christmas". More PC foolishness.

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth..the grand piano and a quote from the old testament does not suffice for this Catholic Christian not when my beliefs are attacked daily.

Would it comfort you that this is what the President said at the lighting of the National Tree televised nationally:

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. With the lighting of the National Christmas Tree, we observe one of the great traditions of our nation's capital. And throughout the Christmas season, we recall that God's love is found in humble places, and God's peace is offered to all of us. Laura and I are pleased to be with you at this Christmas Pageant of Peace, and we thank you all for coming as well.

I want to thank Barbara for hosting this event. (Applause.) I want to thank all the entertainers for making the night such a special evening. Thank you all for coming. (Applause.) I want to thank Peter and the board of directors and the production team for organizing this fine event. I appreciate Santa coming. (Laughter.) Looks like he needs a belt for Christmas. (Laughter.) Finally, I want to thank all the good people of the National Park Service. (Applause.) The National Christmas Tree is a living tree and the Park Service looks after it every single day of the year.

For nearly 80 years, in times of calm and in times of challenge, Americans have gathered for this ceremony. The simple story we remember during this season speaks to every generation. It is the story of a quiet birth in a little town, on the margins of an indifferent empire. Yet that single event set the direction of history and still changes millions of lives. For over two millennia, Christmas has carried the message that God is with us -- and, because He's with us, we can always live in hope.

In this season, we celebrate with our families -- and deeply miss family members no longer with us. Thousands of families in our nation are still grieving over the terrible losses that came to them last year on September the 11th. We pray for their comfort. We pray for the comfort for everyone who has lost a life this year.

Our entire nation is also thinking at this time of year of the men and women in the military, many of whom will spend this Christmas at posts far from home. They stand between Americans and grave danger. They serve in the cause of peace and freedom. They wear the uniform proudly and we are proud of them. (Applause.)

Laura and I wish every American family the blessings of this season, happy holidays, and a merry Christmas. And now we have the honor of lighting the National Christmas Tree. And joining us we've got two new friends, Samara Banks and Ben Schneller, to help us light this tree.

Now, if everybody -- you all step up here -- (laughter) -- get ready -- please join us in the countdown: Five, four, three, two, one. (Applause.)

OK. Now you are starting to tick me off.

Go up and look at the cards the Clintons sent. Does their card mean they are proclaiming Christ to the world? No.

Did you even GET a card from the White House? I did, and mine is at the framers, because I am THRILLED that we have a president who quotes scripture in his card, and lives his faith.

You can dwell on the beauty and religiousness of those White House Christmas cards from the Clinton years.

Feh.

President Bush is the leader of all Americans.

This sums it up. Avoid the PC flak and just put out something tastefull.

Sure, I would have liked a card with Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Wise Men... but sometimes, you gotta' bite the bullet.
