I sure sounds like something that was put together in a 5-sided puzzle palace. No wonder I can never get ahead! I can't out-psycholomaniacalanimalilogicalize the OPFOR snowmobile aces! ;-) :-D

A good capsule of the thinking of a brilliant military innovator, one of my intellectual heroes.

So, basically, we all need to be McGyvers. That rules me out. I've got a toilet making noises and I can't figure out how to stop it. Ohhh, my wife LOVES that.

OODA bump.

The OODA loop is today a working part of every military line officer's vocabulary, there has hardly been an article written in a military journal in the last ten years which does not assume that the reader is totally familiar with the concept.

To read about someone who totally understood the the OODA loop a century and a half ago, read any biography of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest, who consistantly whipped the Yankees in Tennessee while outnumbered and outgunned.

Today, many military strategists believe that the way to counter terrorists is to think as they do -- to employ speed, ambiguity, and deception. One way to look at the tragedy of September 11 is that, for a moment, the terrorists got inside our OODA loop.

This is so true...that morning we didn't know what was going to hit us next.....they got inside our heads.

Agreed.

However, at this point, we intend to get a little turnabout.

Robert Coram, whose biography, Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed
the Art of War ( Little Brown ), will appear in November.

I've not read that book yet.

BUT, I have read Robert Corum's book on Col. Bud Day.
Couldn't put it down.
The portions dealing with The Hanoi Hilton (and co-prisoner
John McCain) are riveting.
Should be required reading for high school and university students.

It's titled "American Patriot".
