It seems to me these folks have the right to protect their land from crimminals. I don't see a problem here. If the state can't do it, someone has to.
I'm not from the area, but I can't imagine having all those illegals destroying my peace.
It seems as though the government is protecting the guilty and ignoring the cries of the innocent - again.
I'm with the militias on this one. Something has to be done. I wish them their safty and success.

There is a report on azfamily.com stating that this is making the illegals think twice about crossing. Sometimes to get something done right you have to do it yourself. IMO, the new governor is going to have her hands full if she tries to do too much to stop this action.

militia members who take part in the weekend patrol will not wear uniforms or camouflage...its volunteers...would have to pass a felony background investigation and an FBI check.

members will be armed with handguns — no rifles — to protect themselves.

He's got a great start at winning the PR war already. Let's hope he has good lawyers lined up for the inevitable civil suit filed by the Mexican govt on behalf of any aliens he chances upon.

I would encourage his group to carry rifles and cite the murders of aliens and border patrol agents. He might as well let everyone know the environment is hostile enough that anyone venturing into it already needs to be well armed.

I searched, but could not find a link to the Tombstone Milita website. Has anyone seen one?

BTTT!

I used to be an open borders type, but now I say: Shut 'em down!

Good for these guys. Too bad this won't get reported at all. Rove is going to caution Bush to ignore it. The whole immigration process needs ot be overhauled.

Huzzah! I love it! God Bless these freedom lovers. Hope this sets a trend for others to follow. I have so much admiration for Americans that are not afraid to do what is right, not only in their hearts, but minds and souls as well.

Sure will be embarassing if this group arrests a jeep full of Mexican Army people on one of their trips into our territory.

LETS GET REAL !!.... First off the statistics are wrong. We catch almost 1 million illegals every year and it is estimated we miss 3 million more that filter in to work around the United States. Obviously rather than face the scrutiny of normal US entry methods the next terrorist will come across the border. The problem is not a "minor" irritant but a major threat to Americans everywhere.
Second, for a variety of reasons (political correctness, economics, personal bias etc) the current efforts will never work and "something" MUST be done. The placing of armed civilians along the border will not be much more effective and is frought with potential disaster. It's principle value is to focus attention on a major breech in our National security.
Third, as long as you insist upon enjoying low prices for your store bought vegetables and do not want to pay higher prices for thousands of other products and services..... illegal aliens will find employment. Attempts to isolate and boycott these law benders will NEVER be effective. Between the radical left, minority activists and big business money , not to mention lack of comsumer support , a boycott will fail. The only recourse is a program for cross border employment of temporary workers. These people often pay thousands of dollars and risk their lives to enter the US. It seems logical they would pay a reasonable fee to come here safely and legally to work. This fee could be used to provide them the public services normally paid for in taxes. This would releave the pressure on the border patrol and maybe they could provide border security.
I wrote the IRS.... and was of course ignored.... with several suggestions to improve border security.
1. Have a "Hotline" for the reporting illegal alien activity.
2. INS Liason officers to local law enforcement facilities in access corridors to stem the tide of illegal alien crimes/crossings. Currently local law enforcement do not care if someone breaks our National immigration laws and will not respond to calls unless a crime?? is committed.
3. An airlift of illegal aliens to the southern regions of Mexico. This would slow the flow of repeat illegal border crossers.
4. Charge the Mexican government for each illegal alien sent back to Mexico. This would be a subtle encouragement for tghe Mexican government to put teeth in their border security policies.
I have no problem with hard working people trying to improve the quality of their lives. My problem is with parasites that come here to violate our laws and "steal" our tax dollars by living off our government programs.
There are people who live in Mexico and get welfare checks and other government benefits. They merely rent a post office box in one of the many border towns and file false claims. Sadly many government employees condone even encourage this "stealing".
Blanket awards of "legal status" is in effect rewarding illegal behavior not to mention encourages others to break our laws. When people repeatedly break our laws we ought to be able to efficiently deport them. This capacity alone would drasticly reduce our prison populations.
