A former kindergarten teacher who has organized a 600-strong militia in Arizona will station 50 armed militia members on public land this weekend to "protect their country" against an invasion of illegal aliens, warning federal authorities

There is a report on azfamily.com stating that this is making the illegals think twice about crossing. Sometimes to get something done right you have to do it yourself. IMO, the new governor is going to have her hands full if she tries to do too much to stop this action.

Texasforever: Their "challenge" to Bush to arrest them smacks of publicity seeking behavior safe in the knowledge that they have nothing to fear.

BJungNan: I don't read it that way.

Neither do I; I read it as:
"they're d*mn sick of the invasion of illegals, the complacency and even encouragement of elected officials regarding illegals pouring through our borders; elected office who are sworn to uphold AMERICAN security, above anything and everything, and they're NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!"

...Meanwhile, if one or two of the militia get capped themselves, it will be the "undocumented's" simply defending themselves against the right-wing wacko's...

My main fear is that the Mexican Army will start patroling or escorting illegals into our country rather than protecting drug runners.

What will be the fallout from a firefight involving US citizens and a foreign military on our side of border? A liberal media white wash (yep!), or the Bush Administration finally mobilizing (iffy - at best!) to help our citizenry and stop illegals at the border?

Did this problem just surface on January 20th, 2001 or did they know how they would be received by a Clinton/Reno regime? Much like the Klayman Basin patriots, they kept their heads down until a Republican president was elected and the real personal threat had passed.

I do hope you recall that under the regime of the last Republican president, Randy Weaver's wife was murdered by an FBI sniper in Idaho and the BATF made their plans to raid the Branch Davidian church and kill its pastor, though their plan wasn't carried out until the Clinton administration took over. And while Clinton did indeed pardon several Puerto Rican terrorist enemies of the US ibn the final days he held office, it was the Republican Bush family whose oil industry ties to the Mexicans invading the United States who are attempting to grant blanket amnesty to the hundreds of thousands of illegal alian felon invaders already within our borders.

Three years ago, most of *these guys* were on the border, where most of their number reside, watching a horrible situation get worse. After 09/11 it became clear that our government was incapable of preventing such enemy attacks by the foreign enemies allowed here by those supposedly in charge of such matters, so they can no longer be counted upon to prevent further attacks, only to cover up their own complicity, failure and responsibility for the deaths of more Americans to come.

It looks more and more like Bush II will have no more chance of a second term than Bush I did. It'll serve the greedy thief right.

If toting a gun at the border is too much for you...

It ain't. I did it in the 1960's for four 6-week tours along the East German-Czech border with West Germany, working a AN/PPS4 radar set ground surveillance team to neatly augument the K9 patrols run in our area by the German Bundesgrenzschutz.

I reckon I can do it again.

Vigilantes stir fear at border

Crossers worry that groups will open fire
Luke Turf
Tucson Citizen
Dec. 9, 2002 12:00 AM

AGUA PRIETA, SONORA - Mexicans hoping to cross the border in search of a livelihood are becoming increasingly alarmed. Word is getting out in this border town about armed vigilante patrols trying to keep them out. Saying they fear the new militia groups more than the Border Patrol, they worry that violence may result.

"They have bullets, they're not playing; they're going to kill," said Juan Porras, a native of Chihuahua who last week had waited four days to cross the border. Selling bags of pecans to make enough money to eat, Porras said he planned to keep trying to cross the border because he had a construction job waiting for him in Phoenix and there's no work at home. "We're just trying to cross, nothing more," Porras said.

Rafael Duran and Gloria Rios, a couple from Durango waiting to cross the border, said they don't understand why some people want to keep them out of the United States.

"Americans benefit from our work, and Mexicans benefit from what we make. It's not much but it helps," Duran said. Rios said she's afraid of the civilian patrols because she read in Mexican newspapers that they'll behave as they please.

In particular, she mentioned the Civil Homeland Defense, a new group founded by Chris Simcox, publisher of the Tombstone Tumbleweed. Simcox couldn't be happier that word is spreading among Mexicans hoping to cross the border. "It's working already because that means they're not going to come across," he said. "That will give our government time to mobilize the troops."

At the Iglesia Presbeteriana, a church popular with illegal immigrants who come there to pray and get information, food and water, Pastor Rodolfo Navarrete said crossers are worried about "vigilantes." Navarrete said immigrant smugglers, known as coyotes, have been telling crossers for more than two years not to worry about the civilian patrols. But now that the Mexican media have publicized the groups, crossers seem more worried. "The people are a little scared," Navarrete said. "It will be a bit harder for them to cross."

Simcox's patrol is the third citizen group taking up arms to guard southern Arizona's border with Mexico. Texas-based Ranch Rescue also has patrols on the lookout for illegal immigrants, and the American Border Patrol, based in Sierra Vista, has set up electronic surveillance equipment to monitor them. So far, there have been no known shootings by members of the armed patrols, although Ranch Rescue last month said it chased a group of marijuana smugglers back into Mexico.

An Agua Prieta cab driver who identified himself only as Isa said immigrants, who come to his town from all over Mexico, are asking him about vigilantes. "They know about it but they just want to go work," Isa said. He anticipates the situation getting worse. "It's going to get more dangerous. A lot of people are going to get killed," he said.

Duran, who said he and Rios were robbed by a coyote, said that between crooked smugglers and armed militias, crossing the border has become too dangerous. The couple plan to give up the idea of crossing and return to Durango.

"They're looking at us like Mexican animals," Duran said.

I think that they are in plenty of danger from the FBI. The FBI is still a Clintonista stronghold and there are reps in Az and New Mexico who only want to be reimbursed by us for their expenses incurred while aiding the invasion.

It appears that perhaps the "militia" is having the desired effect.

Good article. Vigilantes, my arse. As has been pointed out, this is just a neighborhood crime watch on a larger scale.

Well, last time, when Mexican police/troops on their side of the border shot and killed a U.S. federal officer, they just covered it up and claimed it didn't happen that way. I wonder if the shooters got the promised $200,000 bounty for killing an American federale.

Bush hasn't even met with the family of the murdered officer, the coward. Too busy counting his share of the money he gets from PEMEX, I guess.

militia members who take part in the weekend patrol will not wear uniforms or camouflage...its volunteers...would have to pass a felony background investigation and an FBI check.

members will be armed with handguns — no rifles — to protect themselves.

He's got a great start at winning the PR war already. Let's hope he has good lawyers lined up for the inevitable civil suit filed by the Mexican govt on behalf of any aliens he chances upon.

I would encourage his group to carry rifles and cite the murders of aliens and border patrol agents. He might as well let everyone know the environment is hostile enough that anyone venturing into it already needs to be well armed.

I searched, but could not find a link to the Tombstone Milita website. Has anyone seen one?

You should go anyway. The feeling of accomplishment that you'll get will be priceless. The folks down there are some of the most down to earth, laid back people you'll ever meet. Just don't ever try to BS them, they can smell that comin'. I went for a week to a private ranch in AZ, and I never even saw an illegal. But, I'm pretty sure that none got by me while I was on watch in my sector.

The border is beautiful country, and the peace and quiet compared to FL was awesome.

And you will never see stars like that in the urban areas.

"Vigilantes, my arse."

I think I'll take the moniker of "Vigilante" with some pride.

Vigilante: "A member of a vigilance committee."

Vigilance Committee:"An unauthorized committee of citizens organized for the maintenance of order and the summary punishment if crime in the absence of regular or efficient courts."

From Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

I realize that there are "other" definitions, but the original meaning and intent describe what I would call these Patriots at the border.

Lets get the facts straight Mr Grijalva, Your open borders Reqonquista rhetoric, is fanning the flames of an already volitol situation. You are dangerous.

It is already way beyond being out of control, much less a 'volitol' situation. These guys are doing the one sane thing that our 'NAFTA' minded politicians will not.

Well it sounds like the liberal media is doing what they can to stoke the fire and create a problem as soon as possible. Also according to these medias we are to expect that the evil racist vigilantes deserve what they get by increasing the level of "violence".

Something along those lines has happened before. Take a look at this story. Granted it happened some time ago.

Here is another that happened more recently involving Border Patrol agents and Mexican 'citizens'. Sort of the reverse of what you suggested but it still goes to the issue of cross border firefighting incidents.
