And I think it is very telling that we were actually hitting individual people deliberately. This tells me that these people were not merely rank-and-file soldiers.

Yep, it was definitely a hit on what we thought was important people. It does seem to be a waste to use cannon fire to hit individuals, though, because the delay time between firing (I assume that's what the yelling in the background was) and impact killed accuracy. Why didn't we use the smaller Gatling guns? That way we could hose down an area all at once. Is a 20mm projectile as fast as a 105mm round???

Probably faster. Hmmm.

I Googled a table that claims 3500 fps for the 20mm. I can't imagine a 105 is anything nearly as high.

Yep. My theory is that we were hitting senior Taliban/al-Qaeda lieutenants, but I could be wrong. If these guys were rank-and-file soldiers, we probably would have concentrated on hitting the vehicles and anybody surviving would be considered lucky and let go. But the gunship had specific orders to hit all the people. I'd bet anything that these guys were senior Taliban or al-Qaeda. I can't imagine the fear that was put into the people being hit. Unreal!
