"Voter turnout disappointing so far

Turnout low in New Orleans

Associated Press

A local elections official says voter turnout was low this morning in Orleans Parish in the United States Senate race.

Registrar of Voters Louis Keller says he was disappointed by the relatively small number of people who voted in New Orleans. But Keller says he expects the numbers to swell as the day goes on.

Analysts say incumbent Democrat Mary Landrieu needs a big turnout in heavily black areas like New Orleans if she is to beat Republican challenger Suzanne Haik Terrell."

Thanks, unspun. This is good news. Turnout this morning was higher in my precinct than I would have expected (bad news since its about 69% Dem). I hope this keeps up.

So they expect New Orleans turnout to swell later in the day. Well of course they do. By then they'll have a good idea of how many votes they need to buy and steal to win this election.

Hope it stays that way in NO. I think that Terrell could easily be in the range Crystalk is talking about. Registar of Voters Kellar was talking about a turnout of 55% or so earlier this week based upon absentee votes. I was surprised as the Primary turnout was 42.9%... and this would have meant a huge increase in voter participation....

Translation: The DNC vans have been dispatched to the cemetaries to pick up names and "boost the turnout"
