Unfortunately, looks like I was right to call LA-05 a good pickup opportunity for the Dems. But even I didn't expect to have this much trouble with it after Nov. 5. I would say losing that one and Landrieu winning would make this a very bad day for the GOP.

I don't see how Bush's Friday afternoon massacre (of O'Neal and Lindsay) helped, either.

Increased the impression that the economy is in trouble and that Bush is desperate (even if it isn't true).

Not that bad. Landrieu would have won while identifying closely with Bush, and purposely distancing herself from Clinton and other high profile Dems.
That is not really such a big Dem victory.

I'm not defending Montag813's statement, but I've seen Hanan Ashwari - not one of my favorite people, to understate the matter - referred to in exactly the same way many times around these parts and no one raised a voice in protest. Is it only racism when speaking of an American Republican?

No problem. What you've said is too bad, though. IMHO, what is dragging the Catholic Church down in America is these damn 60s hippie/sodomite priests, who do everything they can to stir dissent instead of faithfully instructing their flocks. The sex scandals are a prime example of this. Natural Family Planning works just wonderfully, and, pursuant to the "crowd you run with" way of thinking, I know of no couple who has not been able to plan their families in this way, without birth control.
I know of lots of couples. Maybe you should find better friends

If the GOP loses both the senate seat and the LA-05, we thank can sore losers like Gov. Foster, Rep. Cooksey, and Halloway. It seems like the LA GOP is make up of Sen. Bob Smith wannabes.

It looks like Richard Gephardt won the last congressional race of the year after all. It was he who anointed Alexander to be Cooksey's successor in Congress. At the time, most ridiculed Gephardt's interference in the LA election. I think Fletcher must have thought his good looks entitled him to victory, and he just sat on what turned out to be a nonexistent lead. This often happens with Republican candidates. Nixon nearly did the same in 1968. And of course, Dewey sat on a "lead" that never existed in 1948. Now, poor Holloway will try, try again in 2004 against Alexander, and he won't do any better then than he did this year. We would have come out better if Cooksey had never made his three-terms-only pledge and run again for reelection to the House, instead of entering the forbidden Senate primary. Also I am disappointed in the "momentum" for Terrell: it existed only in our minds!

A less than perfect exterior often conceals a beautiful person inside, Sinkspur. I don't think Terrell's ugly, but kind of moderately attractive; I used to think Landrieu was very attractive physically, but that has entirely dissipated in the past few years.
