I hope we have some LA voters who can check out the polls throughout the day. I understand that the dems are going to be monitoring the polls at noon and if the turn out isn't sufficient they're going to conduct a knock and drag.

Hope we have some good poll watchers out there.

Yes, indeed, LA does have some Indian reservations, where whites come to gamble. And the reservations are, as in SD, nearly 100 percent Democrat.

I believe that Custer was the one who coined that phrase.

Actually, poor Mary "cain't he'p it," for she was BORN into Democrat politics, with her father being the last white Democrat mayor of New Orleans, Maurice "Moon" Landrieu.

As I predicted earlier, Miss Donna Brazile will herself drive reluctant voters to the polls to pull the Landrieu lever.

If East Feliciana Parish does not give Landrieu at least 60 percent, I would think she cannot pull it out. There will be a sad look on the faces of Mr. James Carville and Miss Donna Brazile tonight, if your report is correct.

St. Tammany may have been one of two parishes that Dave Treen won in 1983, when EWE came back for his third term as governor, the other being LaSalle??

People keep forgetting that Saxby Chambliss also won statewide in Georgia and drew more votes than Sonny did. Ralph and the GA GOP put into place a GOTV program that had never been done before in Georgia, and it worked well. Yes, Roy Barnes helped beat himself. Yes, GW Bush campaigned hard for Saxby. Yes, Sonny and Saxby had good grassroots organizations...BUT without Ralph's leadership in executing the GOTV plan (including phone calls, direct mail, and door-to-door), I (a Georgian) would have a democrat governor and senator this morning.

i agree. i think we need to have that type of ground game every election. even though we are usually more responsible voters and don't need to be hauled to the booth. A little follow up does help. I did it with my sister in florida who promised she would vote. However, if I hadn't called her at work 4:30pm she would've let it go. I called, reminded and made her feel guilty if she didn't. needless to say Jeb won bigtime.

Just spoke to a friend who is very active in her church and in politics in west Baton Rouge Parish. My friend is black, but is registered republican. She told me a couple of things which I find very interesting.

One is that the black church leaders are very active today in getting out the vote. However, all they are saying is vote. They are not actively supporting Landreau. Of course, most will vote democrat by default.

Secondly, she told me her mother, was very active in democrat politics over the years (worked for Russell Long in Baton Rouge and D.C.) is disgusted with Landreau. She said Landreau jilted the blacks after they gave her a victory in 1996 and she is voting for Terrell.

With that said, there apears to be some internal conflicts in the black community, and Landreau may not get as high a percentage of the black vote as might otherwise be expected. If she gets less than 90% of the black vote, the party's over for Miss Mary.

I've noticed several posts of this nature in the past week by people here and it's really rubbed me the wrong way...We take our football seriously here.

Lighten up JUST a bit. Lots of people here take their football very seriously, whether their team wins or not. I'm a N.C. State fan myself and am having a very good year!

It's really weird that just 52 senators will give one party a two-senator edge in committees.

Well, the truth is this is not cast in stone. Trent Lott will be the key as the Senate Majority Leader. But ...the committees are supposed to reflect the overall majority of the senate. This will be a test for Lott, and some democrats are already suggesting a fight.

But the first order of business is to win Louisiana to set this fight in motion. By the way, Jumping Jim Jeffords and his "leanings" become most interesting. Should he begin "leaning" republican, the majority--with a win in Louisiana--would be 53-47. I'm not advocating that he be allowed back on the reservation, just makes the numbers more interesting.

No Daschle Indian Reservations In Louisiana???

No. But the obituaries show thousands who will vote for Landrieu today.

The prison vote is solidly behind her... HA!

Blacks vote in the morning,,

"Knock and drag" black voters don't vote in the morning. They are just about now regaining consciousness from last night's binge and are dragged off porches and given $50 to load a bus and vote multiple times in multiple places under multiple identities.

Mid afternoon exit polling showed Jenkins winning 53/47 in 1996 among the legitimate voters; then the buses were fired up and "knock and drag" fraud gave the seat to Mary.

"Did you see voter fraud and what is the talk about exit polling and the possible outcome?"

Several people have reported that they encountered Al Hirt on line waiting to vote, but he looks terrible.

What I understand is that the GOP actually is goign further.....they will check off voters as they come into the precinct.....wow. Then, those who have not showed up will get a knock on the door in some cases.
