Voter turnout disappointing so far
The Associated Press
Posted on December 7, 2002

A local elections official says voter turnout was low this morning in Orleans Parish in the United States Senate race.

Registrar of Voters Louis Keller says he was disappointed by the relatively small number of people who voted in New Orleans. But Keller says he expects the numbers to swell as the day goes on.

Analysts say incumbent Democrat Mary Landrieu needs a big turnout in heavily black areas like New Orleans if she is to beat Republican challenger Suzanne Haik Terrell.

"What was posted showed Landrieu leading."

Apologies. Got it bass ackwards.

To get it right: With 59 of 61 precincts reporting in Evangeline, Landrieu (51.2%) leads Terrell (48.8%).

So it looks like a five point drop for Terrell vs Bush's total (53.6%) in Evangeline Parish.

BAD NEWS FOR TERRELL--she loses Evangeline Parish by 177 votes; last time Landrieu lost parish by over 1700 votes---about a 1850 vote swing.
Terrell up 7100 votes in Livingston, but Landrieu lost by about 8500 last time.
