A contingent of black business leaders and clergy will march today on the Chicago headquarters of the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition to protest what they call Mr. Jackson's "self-anointment" as a black leader.

"Jesse Jackson has passed himself off as a leader of African Americans," said the Rev. Lance Davis, a Chicago-area minister who has led three other protests against Mr. Jackson in the past month.

Why does anyone still cal him "reverened?"

It's simply semantics like the potatoe/potato thing--but speaking as a self-proclaimed authority on the matter, his correct title is the 'Revrearend' Jackson.

Jesse telling Martin about the three secrets to success.
Martin having a dream about sending Jackson out as an advance man.

Don't know what kind of "Rev" Jesse Jackson is, but in the Great State of Ohio you can submit a cetificate from any mail-order or matchbook-cover "seminary" to the Secretary of State and get official recognition as a minister/reverend, whatever.

You can perform weddings and probably exploit some of the many tax breaks that preachers get, if you can gin up a "church" of some kind to employ you.

Jesse's son Yusef Jackson studied law at U.Va. Law, whose admissions policies Linda Chavez has recently exposed through her impressive thinktank:

http://www.ceousa.org/html/update/update.html

"A detailed, 50-page study released by the Center for Equal Opportunity concludes that racial discrimination is widespread in Virginia law school admissions. The report focuses on the three Virginia public law schools -- the University of Virginia, William & Mary, and George Mason University -- and reveals odds favoring black applicants as high as 731 to 1. To put it in other terms: A student with an LSAT score of 160 and an undergraduate GPA of 3.25 had a 95 percent chance of admission into U.Va. if he or she was black, but only a 3 percent chance of admission if white, Hispanic or Asian."

Jesse's being sued by some association of barbers for emotional distress and business losses resulting from his comments about irreverant remarks about '60's civil rights activitists:

Maybe what we're seeing here is an awakening...an evolution from perpetual victimhood to something more mainstream. Now let's drop the hyphens and just see ourselves as Americans!

While reading the above excerpts and articles, I had a strange thought enter my mind. I'd like to share it in the hopes another freeper has had this "thought" and please remember it's a "thought" that came out of the blue and not intended as slander or malicious intent. Here goes:

In a flash the "thought" was Jessie was part of a plot, him being the decoy "down below" while his partner-in-crime fired the fatal shot. A motive would be he wanted to be in the spotlight, instead.

Having said that, I can only guess what led to my 'flash' was his actions surrounding the tragedy, seeking newsmen and cameras seems rather odd. He put himself up front immediately and has stayed front and center since that awful day. Again, this is just a thought and not an accusation. I've never entertained this thought before.

Any comments?

If you need some tinfoil for your hat maybe we can split the cost for a roll. Because I've thought the same thing several times. It may seem far fetched to some but who has benefited the most since Dr.King's death? Even Dr.King's own family don't think James Earl Ray did it, or if he did he didn't act alone.

Whew. That helps.
If 2 of us had this thought, can we assume law enforcement, at that time, did, too, and checked out what's-his-name mighty thoroughly?

Mr. Jackson countered yesterday that his opposition's motive is not morals or business but politics, noting that several of the protesters are defeated candidates.
Does Jesse see NO hypocrasy in this statement?

Black leaders plan Jesse Jackson protest

Okay. Call it picking a nit if you'd like, but even though this effort is against Jackson, I still find the title of the column infuriating.

Instead of saying, "Black leaders plan Jesse Jackson protest," how about "American blacks plan Jesse Jackson protest?"

You and I have already had this discussion, but for the lurkers sake (and others who may not know), I take issue with this because I don't need a damn leader (my being black notwithstanding).

There shall be no mercy.
