I saw this one, too. It occurs to me that when handed or picking up binoculars, a camera or any other item of this type, it is natural to put them up to your eyes, then find out everything is dark, drop them down, remove the covers, and look back through them. A picture pulled from a video or a photographer who is quick can take an embarassing picture. I don't know if this is what happened, but I'd bet on it with W's pic. The one with slick, I thought I had heard that the video showed him panning the horizon with the caps on, but I am not sure.

Actually, the Bush pic with the caps on seems to be right before the picture with the caps off. I think it happened as you explain it and I imagine that it was the same way with Clinton. There's also the picture of Bush holding a kids' book upside down... which can also be easily explained - he was looking at a kid reading the book, not reading it himself. These pictures are all sort of pointless, even if you're not a Bush fan, or a Clinton fan for that matter...

I remember a friend of mine raising a rifle to shoot a deer, only to find out the scope covers were on. He removed them, sighted, and pulled the trigger, only to find out that he didn't have a round chambered. Deer got shot anyway.
