Sorry, but the aircraft has already been identified as a Four Winds 192.

www.fourwindsaircraft.com

I never said or implied that it was a Piper aircraft. Just looking at the crash images told me that is was not a Piper, since the horizontal stabilizer was different.

From AP:

But Jeff Rahm, president of Four Winds Aircraft in New Smyrna Beach, said Friday that two of the company's employees died in the crash.

Rick Grannis, a salesman and instructor for the firm, was the pilot, and sales manager Garry Williams was the passenger, Rahm said.

"We have no answers," Rahm said. "There was an inflight engine fire and that's all we're able to tell at this time. ... The plane itself was fine, but what engine problems they had, we don't know."

Grannis and Williams flew to Marathon Airport on Thursday afternoon to attend a Christmas party of the Young Eagles flying club, said club president Ed Waldorf. They had asked to show the prototype plane to the group and gave several club members rides in the plane, Waldorf said.

Two employees, not muslim, had been given flights all day, engine fire before crash.

Take off your tinfoil people.

Maybe the plane was flown by remote control into the building?

As the plane struck the building west of the Miami International Airport about 9 p.m., as more than 100 employees were inside the building celebrating a holiday party.

Thanks for the update FreeTally.

This is an outstanding aircraft, and I hope that the company will not be harmed because of this accident.

Some people today are using that Christmas tree tinsel in way that were never intended.

As with any aircraft accident, I pay attention.

What caused this, and how can I prevent it from happening to me?

But yes, an engine fire while you are in the air is extremely dangerous. Your only option is to slip the aircraft and find a landing spot ASAP.

Did the passenger leap from the aircraft? I'm keeping my tinfoil on for the time being.

Ok, if you are in a burning aircraft, you have two options:

1) Jump out and go splat.

2) Stay in the aircraft and burn.

Did you ever watch the people who jumped from the WTC?

With a fire on board it would sure explain why the pilot could not manage to avoid a building when he was just across the street from a large area of golf courses. And it would explain the other occupant of the plane making a desperate jump (if that is how he ended up on the golf course). Putting a small plane down on a fairway is very survivable. Something had to account for the odd outcome.

Are we reading the same articles?

Pilot realizes that he has an engine fire.

Pilot attempts to land on the golf course.

Smoke from the engine fire totally obscures the windshield, and the pilot is flying blind.

Passenger gets burned and jumps from the aircraft.

Pilot is doing his absolute best to land safely, but because of the smoke and fire inside of the aircraft, it becomes impossible.

Aircraft hits the building.

Yes, we are reading the same article.

In a high wing aircraft, the fuel tanks are in the wings.

Once the aircraft hit the building, the gasoline is spilled from the wing and you have a major fire.

Okay, where's the nearby golf course?

Somebody last night, who lives in the area did post a map quest image of the area.

Sorry, I can not remember the Freeper who posted the map.

Okay, where's the nearby golf course?

Uh, perhaps the golf course that they found the other body in? LOL

Actually, my only question is this:

Why did the pilot not also jump?

The Doral Country Club is right across the street. There are four golf courses on the property, except it would be almost impossible to make a landing there at night.
