With a fire on board it would sure explain why the pilot could not manage to avoid a building when he was just across the street from a large area of golf courses. And it would explain the other occupant of the plane making a desperate jump (if that is how he ended up on the golf course). Putting a small plane down on a fairway is very survivable. Something had to account for the odd outcome.

Pilot realizes that he has an engine fire.

Pilot attempts to land on the golf course.

Smoke from the engine fire totally obscures the windshield, and the pilot is flying blind.

Passenger gets burned and jumps from the aircraft.

Pilot is doing his absolute best to land safely, but because of the smoke and fire inside of the aircraft, it becomes impossible.

Aircraft hits the building.
