Hmmm...ok...so what about that time in between?? Should I live in a van down by the river?? LOL!!! ;-D I've got 2100 square feet and 4 bedrooms full of furniture. An apartment won't work so well for us I am afraid.
Well if you're going head down to the river .. may I suggest a houseboat .. not sure if the van will float during a flood.
On a serious note .. whatever you do is your decision because only you can tell what is best .. but I do know that when my father died, everyone told my mother to sell her house, ship us kids off to an orphanage and move to an apartment ..
Thankfully she didn't listen to them .. and that house she paid $13,000 for is now paid off and worth a heck of alot more today and my family is still intact
