Lord of the Rings Fans Disillusioned: Aragorn is Anti-American Peacenik Retard!

It would appear, based on this account of Viggo Mortensen's appearance on Charlie Rose last night, that this nascent superstar (based on his wonderful acting in the Lord of the Rings films) is actually just another America-hating imbecile- a man who plays a hero, yet fails to see the heroism of U.S. fighting men, or the justice of their cause. BTW, I didn't see the show, as I don't get Charlie Rose, but I saw a photo of Viggo in the "No More Blood For Oil" T-shirt. What a moron. Very disappointing.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Most Dems live in a fantasy world.

I don't know who this is but from your description I guess that he is an actor. Why do we care what's on his alleged mind. He's not paid to think because he can't. He can have an opinion but it carries no weight.

It doesn't matter; Two Towers is even better than Fellowship (we saw it yesterday), and Aragorn is as tough and warlike as you could wish...but Gollum, now there's a truly fabulous characterization, wow. Everybody there was dazzled, we wanted to see it again, right away.

The overwhelming majority of actors are dumber than a box of hammers. It's just a fact of life.

Well, Tolkien wasn't an anti-American retard, and it's basically his story.

Pray tell, how does one go about seeing the movie before its release? Just curious(jealous).

I had the same impression when I watched a couple of interviews with Gillian Anderson (who played Dana Scully in X-Files.) What an airhead - yet a fantastic actress. Just goes to show that acting ability & rocket science probably don't go together.

Totally agree on Anderson, both aspects. What an actress! What an idiot!

This is why my wife does not seek after interviews with artists whose work she enjoys. For instance, she doesn't know yet (as far as I know) about the human mess who plays Gandalf so wonderfully... and I for one won't tell her. She's happier not knowing, and I don't blame her one bit.

Sadly, a visit to this yokel's IMDb page reveals that he was born in NYC. His city (his country as well, but that doesn't seem to matter much to him) was attacked, and he still doesn't get it.

Well, his political views may not matter to some, but I'll have a hard time sitting there watching this jerk for 6 more hours. Too bad he didn't play Boromir, if you know what I mean.

All theaters are required to watch the movie before they air it to the public in order to fill out an audit form telling the condition of the film, any repairs they make (frames burned and spliced out, etc) and that form goes with the film when they send it either to the next theater or back to the studio. Also, many film critics are given DVD's of the film to view at their leisure in order to give reviews. Sometimes the janitor might find that DVD if the critic is careless, and just by coincidence(!), that janitor has a laptop in his duffel bag. Doesnt take long, then that sucker is all over the internet...JFK

I knew it would only be a matter of time before my favorite movie(s) were soiled by this leftist crap. Oh well, even this is not going to stop from being on line Wednesday at midnight...

And one should differentiate the actor/writer and his creation.

I already got my ticket with the Fellowship Extended Edition DVD, so I'll be there, too. I think my main rule of thumb is that the movie itself cannot espouse a leftist viewpoint, which these films do not. Oh, and it can't have a Baldwin. That's an automatic deal-breaker.

Have you ever met an actor?

They can be very strange. They certainly aren't anything like the characters they portray, and it is silly to expect them be. They work very hard when they're working and don't have much time or energy to keep up with current events. When they aren't working they're networking with folks who can help them get work and that requires them to have the same opinions as the folks who have the power to make decisions about their careers.

Viggo is a wonderful actor but like most actors the most interesting thing about him is what you see on the screen. Because actors portray interesting and intelligent people it is easy to assume that they are interesting and intelligent in real life. Rarely is it so.
