In the Wednesday morning edition, the News-Star endorsed Terrell citing among other reasons that Louisiana needs a voice in the new Republican-controlled Senate.

So the paper endorsed her based on her party affliation with the party in power. Not much of an endorsement. Logic would say that Mary would have got the endorsement if the dems took over the Senate.

I take it you graduated from N.H.S. If you still live in Monroe, what's the tenor in NE La? Have you seen/heard any indication of Ralph Reed's get out the vote efforts?

True. But, it's better than not being endorsed or them endorsing Mary. Let's be realistic though. How influential are newspaper endorsements today? We have a gazillion news sources on cable T.V. and on the internet. Newspaper subscriptions are down dramatically and the daily newspaper will one day be a thing of the past. Besides that; anyone who reads the Editorial Page of a newspaper is politically saavy and have already made up their mind. Any newspaper endorsement today is probably worth .001% of the vote.

Here in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) region of NC, many candidates hope against getting endorsed by the biggest paper in the area, the Raleigh News & Observer. They know that in many cases an endorsement by this paper costs them votes.

Actually, the Monroe News-Star is much more conservative than the Shreveport Times though they are under the same newspaper umbrella, I believe. The News-Star endorsed Terrell even BEFORE the Nov. 5 senatorial primary.
