John DiIulio, the former director of the White House faith-based initiative office, yesterday apologized for saying that President Bush's domestic priorities are determined exclusively by political considerations.

Using words uttered hours earlier by White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, who called Mr. DiIulio's remarks in the January edition of Esquire magazine "baseless and groundless," the first high-ranking Bush official to leave the administration asked for forgiveness and vowed never to speak or write again about his short White House stint.

Uh, you might want to post the original letter that DiIulio wrote. It looks like he said what the Esquire article attributed to him.

Its on Drudge

his desire to speak truthfully about his experiences at the center of power is to be hailed," Mr. Suskind said.

Hmmm, wonder if he felt that way about Paula Jones or Juanita Broderick?

Thanks for the link. The letter shows this is all much ado about nothing -- ie attempt to hype up an issue to slam Bush.

The guy was hardly critical at all.

What he did criticize about -- not doing enough on a domestic agenda - in my book isn't a criticism but point in their favor.

Dems and their press allies are running very scared.

The point seemed to me to be more, "we weren't having endless arguments about the detailed minutia of every policy decision." Now, some discussion is useful. And a fuller airing of the issues of the faith bill may have been warranted.

However, for people who KNOW what they want to do, who have an ideology which guides them (as I would assume all the people who reach the White House do) what is the point of writing up 30 position papers and making sure that 15 of them come from a centrist democrat so we can be bi-partisan?

Like I said last night, this is nothing but sour grapes!

DiIulio was a nobody and remains a nobody. This proves it.

Both ? :-)

And to think that some FREEPERS used the misquoted / never said / said but now ashamed of having said ( ? ) statements, in an article, from a LIBERAL venue, to bash Bush ; yet again. Too bad, that they won't bother to read THIS retraction.

The guy recants so the news source repeats all the allegations for good measure. Gotta love the press.

I wouldn't have imagined that DiIulio was such a petty spiteful backstabber. But that's probably explained by the fact that he's a 'Rat.
