This race hinges on the back vote. If Landrieu gets it out she wins. I am sure the Democrats are doing all they can to get out the black vote. But that depends on the black political leaders mostly in New Orleans. So far this year blacks have not made the effort they did in 2000. It remains to be seen if they will do it here.
A lot of blacks are beginning to think that they need to make the Democratrs do things for them. Lots of black voters feel taken for granted. The natural human reaction is you don't know what you've got until it is gone.
It will be interesting to hear what the campaigs are doing and what they are doing with commercials.
If the latest UNO poll is correct, I do not care how motivated the black vote is, Landrieu cannot win. Right now, Terrell can reasonably expect to pull anywhere between 64-67% of the white vote on election day. This means her task is merely to get her vote out, and with the Prez, E Dole, Cheney, Guliani, etc. coming down for a visit, that will get them out.
This whole deal about everything hinging on the black vote is predicated on the DemonRAT pulling at least 40% of the white vote. Right now, Landrieu is pulling 31% of the white vote. She is hurting real bad. She had better resurrect 3-4 times the number of dead people the DemonRATs typically do to vote.
I just do not see it happening unless some kind of bomb is dropped exposing Terrell of tax evasion or fraud between now and election day and it has the ring of truth to it or it sticks somehow.
I fully anticipate a race-baiting Hate Whitey ad to be put out by a front group for the NAACP, itself a front for the DNC.
Instead of George W. Bush dragging James Byrd to his death, it will be George W. Bush and Susan Terrell in full Klan regalia or some such nonsense, complete with an appeal to "not turn back the clock".
Ralph's a good tactician. It may be that he is going to help coordinate the President's media exposure on the local LA news outlets. The President will be a monster presence on local LA tv (he hasn't been down there since he stopped over at Barksdale AFB on his way to Offut AFB on September 11th), and I wouldn't be surprised if he gave interviews with some of the local talking heads. Ralph might be good for whatever ground game work there is to be done, as well. I suspect we already have a ground game plan in place, as the 72-hour Plan was a national effort this year.
Every little bit helps. And you're right, CT, no one really talks to Novak.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Just curious, but what evidence do you have for this statement. Enquiring minds want to know.
