Those behind the 1096 assaults offered their victims the option of conversion. Many Jews in Regensburg converted and were not harmed. The majority in the other cities did not and suffered atrocious consequences.

What's your point? Christians in the Sudan and southeast Asia today are also offered the choice of "convert or die!" by the Jihadis. Are they to be held responsible for their own torture and death because they did not accept Islam?

Interestingly, Saladin was completely forgotten by the Arabs until the German Emperor William II visited Iraq, made a speech about the glories of Saladin, and paid to build a monument in Damascus to celebrate Saladin.

This was the same William who was responsible for the European suicide of World War I. He was in the middle east to stir up trouble among the Arabs (then ruled by the Turks) against the British and French. Turkey fought on Germany's side when the war commenced.

Although this essay is very informative in its own right, I have the gut feeling that it's really one historian taking the opportunity to take a swipe at other historians who dared to hold different interpretations.

My pleasure. I have another one that features the Star of David on a flag as well that I'll post as soon as I can.

I'm glad to see you're back!

Feel free! Just copy the file to your server and link it from there.

And if God chooses to chastise us by allowing the Persians to ransack our city, who are we to argue? "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem..."
