The best reason of all,GOD instructed Moses to lead them there and as far as i'm concerned,it is the oldest recorded deed in history.Recorded in the BIBLE.

Problem is, you can never get people on the close-minded left to even examine the historical evidence objectively. Their emotions and liberalism trump any attempts to understand the true nature of the pali-Israel conflict.

If you think both religions are equally to blame for the violence, you must know very little about Judaism.

I don't believe that. Nor have I ever said anything close to it.

I submit Genesis 15:18 as furthur proof of the Right Of Ownership....

Genesis15:18: In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

In essence this "Promised Land" entails the following. The River of Egypt is El Arish on the Mediterranean Sea down to the Gulf of Aqaba at the Northern end of the Red Sea; the land extending over 850 Statute Miles eastward from there to just North of Kuwait at the Euphrates River. On this Southern strip it actually incorporates part of Northern Saudi Arabia & a large portion of Southern Iraq! Then this "Promised Land" incorporates as it extends Northward some 350 Statute Miles capturing a large part of Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. The actual land mass concerned here is is approximately 297,500 Square Miles. This is inclusive of the Occupied Territories as Well! Many people discount this area Jehovah God Gave specifically to his chosen people the Jews/Israelies. In Fact this is the Homeland they will inhabit during the 1000 Year Millenium Period! Whether you believe it or not! Jehovah God said it not me!

It does not seem possible to you and others that this will be just and so as I have laid it out here. Nobody would have believed a Nation would be Born in One Day either, but Jehovah God has a way of getting things done in a dramatic fashion. The arabs & muslims will never get over the shock of this happening and also they will never in a Million Billion years steal a bogus palestinian state out of Sovereign Israel either! Jehovah God intends for the Jews/Israelies to have this Promised Land no matter what the U.S. State Department thinks or desires and the whole world for that matter.

The current inhabitants there do not see the Vision waiting for them and their descendants yet, because Israel is still spiritually blinded as to their true inheritance. In fact Israel for the most part right now is largely agnostic or atheistic in its belief system as it relates to their "Promised Land". The current population will also be gradually exchanged out as time proceeds toward the Millenium. The change we are seeing is coming at a snail's pace but very soon the eyes of the whole world will be focused on this area just like Jehovah God said it would be. Then the Millenium Inhabitants will become a living legacy to the long sought "Promised Land".

There is another more devastating senario you must not lose sight of! If political expediency allows some how there to become a short lived "Land For Peace" agreement to be established because you want so desparately to have peace at any price instead of "True Jehovah God Peace" ; then your legacy will be having to endure another HOLACAUST you created that will make the one in Germany pale in comparison. Do you really want peace so badly that you will agree to a Terrorist palestinian state in your own backyard that arafat the rat will preside over? I Hope/Think, not!

Consider your options wisely; if you don't do this right in the first place you may not get a second chance. Time and chance happeneth to all but not over and over!

The Turks, who took over about 700 years ago and ruled the land up until about World War 1, had control.

The writer is a little vague on his history. 700 years ago the Turks were still riding around in Central Asia.

Of course, what he meant to say was that a succession of Muslim states had control of the area, starting about 700 years ago and ending with the Turks.

He also left out the 200 years of Christian rule of parts of Palestine during the Crusades.

Shhh, don't mix Christians up in this, people might think the Saracens (historically inaccurate, perhaps, but a good name for the rabid Muslims) are angry at them too. :>)

But that Mr. Shear, or anyone, would consider Israel vital to our national security, leaves me stunned. How a postage stamp sized country on the Mediterranean with no national resources short of a regional military can best vital to OUR national security is beyond me!

It is most certainly a legitimate point of debate. I believe Israel is vital for our security for two reasons:

1. The more philosophical approach that I outlined earlier whereby our ultimate security, that is, what it is we need to defend, is our freedom. To the extent that enemies of freedom gain strength and friends of freedom become weak, it is to our detriment.

2. In this specific case, I view the arab world similar to that of the soviets. I believe they are an expansionist, and evil empire. This battle is not about the way some borders are drawn in Israel. This is about freedom, and the Islamists desire to conquer the world and enslave all non-islamist males.

If your interest in purely one of short-term self interest for the U.S., then at least look at it this way: Israel is the first line of trenches. When they are overrun, the battle will take place at the second line, and ultimately the third. We already know that they have their eyes set on Spain, and some would say that they already have their eyes set on the U.S.

Actually, in the Suez Crisis and the 6 Day War, the Israelis attacked first. It is a complete myth that Israel's wars have been solely defensive.

Who fires the first shot is a silly way to judge who started a conflict. If a guy is outside your house yelling that he is going to kill you as he loads up his AK-47, would you not shoot him first in a defensive move?

"...; for all the land which you see, to you will I give it, and to your seed forever . . ."

If they could just agree on which seed of Abraham gets the land. I feel this means Jews as well as Islam as well as Christians.

With respect to the war America faces, you touch on a critical point here. They are expansionist. They are evil. Thus far their "empire" is perceived as borderless, though I'd wrap a number of states up within it. Borders are meaningless. We are, at this stage, at war with an ideology. We need to recognize that now, and defeat them. Not when the "borders" of our enemy have been "politically" defined at a far greater cost.

A slight correction please. Jehovah God did not give anything specifically to Jews. There were no Jews then and would not be for more than a thousand years.

But he did give to the "Israelites". The words Israelite and Jew are not interchangeable.

The word Israeli refers to members of todays Republic of Israel, including Arabs and others, and has no other historic connotation.

I will say, however, that I think reasons #1 and #2 are totally bogus.

All the reasons he gave are bogus. How pathetic. He missed the one and only reason why Israel is entitled to its land--it acquired it morally.

Good retort. Inhoff really missed the boat on this one.

What he should have listed are reasons why it is in the US' best interest for Israel to keep its land.
