The flag is a symbol of a state of mind...of independence from D.C.'s bureaucrats & I.R.S. Why don't the D.C. bureaucrats back off with the central-planning & race card-playing, and give Southern states reparations? Lincoln was a mentally ill (severely depressed) tyrant, who used slavery as an excuse to do what he wanted to do anyway. The after-affects linger on, as states such as Georgia have the nation's lowest S.A.T. average.
Hillbillies were not particularly well known for owning slaves. In fact, most mountainous parts of the South has strong Unionist leanings.
