I know of healthy young adults getting HUD and food cards and free health care. The go to the welfare office and declare themselves indigent and unable to find work. They are American born and bred. The sorry fact is that our welfare system feeds on itself. The bureaucrats need clients to justify their own jobs. Handing out welfare benefits to the needy or non-needy is the same to them. The agribusiness industry benefits from the food handouts and that is why it won't be cut back or out. Welfare is so big of an industry that it cannot be eliminated. I see it as encouraging laziness in young people who don't have to work to survive and as they grow older they have no skills or experience to earn a living and thus continue on the dole. Don't have any answers but adding the foreign theives to the mix just escalates the resentment of taxpayers who foot the bill for the benevolence of our elected leaders.

I have a close friend of mine who is a "section 8'er" and he is a far from indigent able bodied 26 year old. There are ads here in New York telling people how great it is to use the "food card" and how it will save them on their groceries.
