Hopefully President Bush has put adequate safeguards in place to keep the riff raff out and the commerce flowing though.
Yes, the DOT will be just like the INS. Isn't that going to be just ducky.

What is Bush thinking??Making America "more competitive" by obliterating the Middle Class.

Pass all those new trucks with care!

Notice the exhaust pipe... this car's running! LOL

These rustbuckets WILL be loaded with drugs and illegal aliens, plus their lack of safety can be expected to take some of us down on the roads. And, on top of all that, American truckers will now have to face cheaper competition in the labor force. You forgot something.
The cost of our uninsured motorist coverage is going to go way up.

In other words, they are SO concerned about "terrorism" that they need to restrict our liberties and curtail our protections under the Constitution, yet they allow trucks from Mexico free access.... Noticed any truck bombs from Canada lately? Be aware, Canadians hate Americans mote than Mexicans. Noticed any Mexicans calling Geo. Bush a moron? Or an idiot?

All I can say is:
Bush Tancredo in 2004.

Good. About time we quit bowing our knees at the feet of the interstate trucking industry. What sense does it make to allow these trucks in for 3 miles, unload them, reload them onto "U.S." trucks and then haul them another 30 or 300 or 3000? How much does that add to the price of consumer goods? What an unnecessary waste of resources.
Additionally, Mexico is an ally, not an enemy. The xenophobia of some in our conservative community is unwarranted. Making some common sense moves and agreements with friends is important. This is, I believe, one of those moves.
On a TOTALLY unrelated subject, I believe all this flak about Saudi Arabia is going to be proven to be much ado about nothing. I believe there is so much going on under the table, the press is going to be stunned when it comes out...if it ever does. We will win the War on Terror, and I believe the Saudis, whose self-interest alone dictates they back the winning team, are playing along in covert ways.
To: Geezerette
He's thinking he can get a couple hundred hispanic votes for next 2004 election. But, he will lose untold thousands to millions of conservative votes. Especially, once our citizens start being slaughtered on our interstates. As well, GW had better pray no terrorist attacks are done by the mexican trucks, coming into the US by muslim drivers.

In Mexico (where a different language is spoken that doesn't include the word "moron") 1% of the population has a college education. Maybe 25% has a high school degree. It's not as hard NOT to seem like a moron down there.
Meanwhile, Mexico fears the USA more than Canada does...Canada took Montreal from us but we took Cal, Tx., NM & AZ from Mexico. I'd not read too much into Mexicans' convenient silence on the moron issue.

Yeah, we took back the Senate!
The Bushbots are beside themselves with joy!
Bush is in control, now!
No more gridlock!
Bush will get everything he wants!
And it will be our worst nightmare!

Recent Mexican Trucking Rules Do Not Solve Serious Safety Hazards:
NAFTA Ruling Could Expose U.S. Public to Dangerous Cross-Border Trucks
A final ruling was handed down February 6, 2001 following a complaint filed by Mexico under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), in which Mexico argued that its commercial trucks should be allowed unlimited access to U.S. highways. A NAFTA arbitration panel, after meeting for months in secret, found that the U.S. must allow Mexican commercial trucks to carry cargo throughout the U.S. or else pay trade sanctions for our refusal to comply, regardless of a well-documented history of U.S. safety concerns.
NAFTA outlined an arbitrary schedule that allowed Mexican carriers limited access to U.S. border states in 1995 and access to the entire U.S. by January 2000. NAFTA also created cross-border working groups on vehicle standards and safety, and Mexico agreed to improve safety at home. But the safety provisions of NAFTA, predictably, have no teeth, because the timelines for both partial and full commercial access were not linked to any progress in the safety of Mexico's trucking fleet.
And the promised improvements have not been made. Due to the serious and unresolved concerns about the grave risk to U.S. motorists of crashes with dangerous, overloaded trucks, until the panel decision, Mexican trucks were limited to a small zone near the border. Last January, President Clinton explained that the Mexican highway inspections and monitoring system was inadequate to assure safety.
Although Mexican trucks in theory have to comply with U.S. law before they can cross the border, in practice the U.S. needs Mexico to improve safety at home because U.S. border inspectors cannot possibly check every cross-border truck.

Noticed any truck bombs from Canada lately? Be aware, Canadians hate Americans mote than Mexicans. Naw, British, Irish, Italians, French, Spanish, they ALL hate Americans more than Canadians. What a stupid thing to say....
Do Mexicans have any baseball or hockey teams that play in the US and vice versa? Have you ever been to Mexico? Have you ever been to Canada? If you haven't, then you have no clue whatsoever as to what you are talking about...

PS: Because one or two Canadians might have voiced their opinion relating to Bush it doesn't mean that they feel any hostility against Americans or America. Another thing, over there they actually report the news, unlike Mexico, where much of the news is censored.
