I cannot testify to the veracity of this statement, as I did not hear it. But I wouldn't be so quick to assume it's not true, even if it's not in the transcripts--it may NOT be true; but I no longer assume that b/c its not in a public record that it didn't happen. And as much as I like this president, the family Bush has its share of skeletons.

During the Iran-Contra hearings one afternoon, I heard then VP Bush's name mentioned in connection to some of the happenings in South America. I do not remember exactly what it was; I didn't write it down, but it was fairly damning. Later that evening on the news, we saw a clip of this exchange and the VP's name had been removed. I would have thought I was imagining the whole thing if I wasn't with a friend both times who verified the earlier hearings.

I agree with you that we need good research; unfortunately, I do believe some things are conveniently and deliberately expunged from records. I would like to believe differently.

One person's conspiracy is another person's urban legend, is another outright person's lie.

HUNDREDS of vague, unsubstantiated allegations were thrown around. Rest assured, I DO remember the Iran-Contra hearings with painful vividness.

Regardless of whether it's conspiracy, urban legend or outright lie, a vague, unsubstantiated allegation about VICE-President H.W. Bush, allegedly occuring before he was even the V.P., but when he was director of the C.I.A, has no bearing on this discussion.
