"I will be interested to see who else is named to the committee."I agree with your assessment of Kissinger as head of the committee. It's the other appointees I'm interested in , too. Especially the 5 appointed by the left-wing.

You really need to remember that at one time we "befriended" Stalin when it suited our purposes. There are allies and then there are allies, and a review of the book The Threatening Storm will some of the explain the geopolitics involved with Saudi Arabia, and I can assure you it will be quite different than the conspiracy theorists believe.

Wouldn't want the ignorant to realize that OIL is the energy for the entire world. Every economy, every country, every business. The flow of oil is what keeps the civilized world moving forward rather than back to the 'dark' ages.

"Then maybe Bush can answer why:"LOL...because he planned the 9/11 attack so he could give more aid money to the cess poll that is Afghanistan and take over all of it's non-existant oil ang gas?
PUH-lease. There's plenty of blame to go around, but only blame where blame is due. I'm tired of the increasingly shrill tinfoil hat theories being thrown around about 9/11.
Weren't you the guy who didn't know that the US DOES have UN endorsement of both no-fly zones in Iraq, and that the US is NOT "occupying" Iraq "illegally"?

Where is your source for all your allegations? Certainly if any of it were credible, it would be all over the news, and the Dems would have hammered away these allegations before the election.

"Kissinger?!"
Actually, my response is: "Kissinger!?" In chess notation, when you have a surprising move ("!") that upon further inspection is a bad move ("?"), the question mark comes last.
Kissenger. BLECH BLECH BLECH. Will we never be rid of this creepoid psuedo-Republican power-monger?
To: OldFriend
They already have those in the Rudman/Hart documents. A year after 9/11 and they want to prevent another tragedy.
Call me a cynic, but i'd have liked to see a true investigator head this.

quietly condoning Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia
For starters, that's a big reason for me. It's like Kissinger heard them say "It's now the year zero" and agreed. Unforgiveable war criminal. Sell out anyone for power and prestige. All about power. A liberal Republican Al Gore.

This could go one of two ways. He'll either whitewash, or drop the bomb on the Clintons. Likely that the report will chronicle more than two decades of intelligence lapses. People will have to connect the dots themselves. The report will not be overly political, nor does the Administration want it to be.

I'm saying that without proof, your comments are, at best, hearsay.
FReepers take great pains to thoroughly research their source material, and then link to those sources. That's one reason out of many why I like it so much here. Where you heard of FR doesn't come into the picture.
Unsubstianted allegations are frowned upon, and the allegations you're talking about were considered to be nothing more than diversionary tactics by the administration and it's lawyers. A pattern proven time and time again thoughout the past decade, so it's more likely to be true than not.
If I think you're a real troll, I'll say so. Otherwise, "welcome to FR" means exactly that: welcome to FR.

I can think of two ways to prevent it from happening again: close all the darn borders and send back anyone with an expired visa!!!!

I hadn't known Hamid Karzai was a consultant with Unocal, but wasn't he also who the locals wanted in that position? It's extremely likely that anyone elected or appointed in that area would be a "consultant" for any number of oil companies, given the location. Afghanistan is in Central Asia and I should have typed/written more clearly. How we conduct ourselves in Afghanistan will affect our war on terror and in particular the likely coming war in Iraq, which will affect relations in the ME and access to oil for not just the US but the world. Re what Condi said, some officials had thought about planes crashing into the WTC or other high-profile buildings, but other officials thought the more likely scenario would be the traditional hijacking. We all want answers, but I personally don't think we can prevent things like 9/11 happening in all instances. There is too much chatter, the world is too big a place to monitor constantly and well. There are those that think Big Brother is here too much already, and I say, we can't have it both ways. Too much monitoring or not enough? Which is it. Will check in later - have to go bake 2 pies.

Everyone mentions oil as though it's a boogey man and the left keeps claiming all these conspiracies between President Bush and the Saudis - but that's all they do. Claim a conspiracy without a shred of evidence to back up their theories. The geopolitics of the world are complex, way beyond my knowledge, but I'd think the importance of oil was something we could all understand. Personally, I think this is a great time for the President to push for Alaskan oil drilling and alternate sources of fuel, etc. Happy Holidays, OldFriend.

>>wasn't he also who the locals wanted in that position?
The Northern Alliance wanted Rabbani, the former president and the Pakistanis wanted Hekmatyr (islami jihadi plus who we recently tried to kill with a Hellfire.
Karzai is the USA's handpicked candidate; a rarity - a Pashtun but secular and modern. And with virtually no indigenous support in the country, unfortunately.

You are correct sir.

"Likely that the report will chronicle more than two decades of intelligence lapses."Exactly...THANK you. And make recommendations to fix intelligence breakdowns in an effort to prevent another attack getting through. I don't understand why so many people are making so much of this, and insisting the committee is empowered to do so much more than it actually is.
To: Brandon
Not this Henry Kissinger by any chance?
To: Peach
"I hadn't known Hamid Karzai was a consultant with Unocal, but wasn't he also who the locals wanted in that position?"Right. During a special conference in Bonn, Germany, he was appointed by representatives of all Afghanistan's tribes and factions.
