The troubled Miss World pageant fled the deadly riots of Nigeria only to be greeted yesterday by angry feminists in London.Eighty beauty contestants swept into Britain over the weekend after religious riots killed 250 people in Nigeria.
"The best thing to do after such fratricide and bloodletting is to cancel the competition," said actress Glenda Jackson, now a member of Parliament.
"These girls will be wearing swimwear dripping with blood," said writer Muriel Gray. "It is ... despicable that we have agreed to host this travesty."
Australian feminist Germaine Greer said the prospect of holding the beauty event after such carnage was "horrifying."
Miss World President Julia Morley said the show will go on.
It was "unfortunate" people were killed, Morley said, but it would be "absolutely unreasonable" to cancel the pageant.
"I will put up a tent in Hyde Park and do it from there, if I have to," she said.
Organizers insisted they're not to blame for the Muslim-Christian riots in Nigeria, sparked by a debate over the contest's morality.
Miss England, Daniella Luan, said she was not sorry about going to Nigeria.
"Apart from the final two days, it was such a great experience ...," she said on a British interview program.
"It is a shame a small minority of people spoiled it for everyone," added Miss Wales, Michelle Bush.
Miss World was to have been picked from a runway in the Nigerian capital. But a newspaper article offended Muslims who had objected to the contest as promoting promiscuity.
The article in the Nov. 16 issue of This Day suggested the Prophet Muhammed would have approved of the pageant and might have picked a wife from among the beauties.

That should read MUSLIM riots. The god of the Muslims encourages murder and sees no immorality in that. There is no moral equivalency between murderers (Muslims) and their victims (anyone not Muslim).

I used to have respect for Glenda Jackson. I've never had any respect for Germaine Greer. Muriel Gray's a hack horror writer who constantly denigrates America, so I dismiss her out of hand. Are there any women in Britain, other than the Miss World Pageant organizers, who have their heads screwed on facing forward?
Even American gender-war feminists are seldom this bizarre.

well, I think that this war on Terror should lead us somewhere, Im from Iraq and Miss Iraq hasnt had any problems during Saddam's era, except that she was banned from International Pageants.
