It is a voluntary decision made by a private company. I wont' be applying for a job there anytime soon nor will I any longer be purchasing from them - but it is not the government forcing it upon them.

Gabz, you can bet your last nickle that SOMEONE got ahold of the head of LOWE's! And yes, it sure is up to them. But LOWE'S will no longer get our money. Hey! If they don't want smoking employees, then I guess they don't want customers who smoke as well.

Good point!

Where I work approximately 40% of employees are smokers. (An anti-smoking ordinance there would cause a mutiny). I'm guessing that the general population smoker percentage around here is over 30%.

If all smokers/tobacco users quit shopping at Lowe's, they would see their profit margin disappear.
