Thanks, as Paul Harvey would say: And now you know the rest of the story ...

So Arnie tried a joint when he was young. Who didn't?Me, a guy who came of age in the 60s no less and AFAIK, my wife and several of my friends. Buncha squares I guess. Of course the guys and gals who did are mostly working telephone sales and such, and "WalMart greeter" type of jobs, or are politicians. I think some of my wifes colleages probably did, but then they are college proffessors so that's to be expected and makes *her* the odd ball, then again, she's the department chair :)

So, Ah-nold smoked weed, and lied about some details of his personal history.

For a silly movie! He didn't lie about his history for any nefarious or terrible reason.

Yep, Arnie would fit right in with the fruits and nuts in California. You think the steroids had any effect on his brain ?

You might wanna stow that hatred toward libertarians, if you plan to win the elections in 2004.

"Arnold: 'I did inhale...'"

At least he has the decency to admit he made a mistake. You have to admire that.

I think "horse medicines" refers to Equpoise, a medicine that is used for underfed horses that need to gain weight, it is quite popular with bodybuilders, however really did not make an appearance in the states until early 1980's.

Arnold used quite a bit of steroids, unfortunately. However, as he is still alive and apparently healthy he did not use to the insane extent that modern bodybuilders today use. Arnold's physique was excellent, and a young man might look at it and say, "I'd like to look like that."

There is a definite difference in the physiques of Mr. Olympia competitors today and the physiques of Arnold and his generation. This did not come from better training, but rather better drugs. Modern competitive bodybuilders now must weigh 300 pounds with 2% body fat in order to be successful. Don't ask the modern bodybuilder to run 20 yards or be alive much past 50. Few sane people would like to look like them either.

Well, he's taking the issue away from any political opponents, that's for sure. He can't be President, though, because he was born in Austria.

People who compare Arnold with Bill Clinton are missing a very big distinction: Clinton has never worked an honest day in his life, while Arnold performed tough manual labor before "hitting it big". He worked as a bricklayer, IIRC.

I agree. Did a bit of research on steroids in the late 1980's. Not only do the men look horrible, the women look worse. Know a couple of women who have done more than 5 years of cycles and both have receeding hair line (severe and looks real wierd), very low voices, and all the other lovely side effects, which of course, on women are permanant. Go figure.

Lots of us didn't. He was 30 years old when the documentary was made and people care because Arnold is a celebrity and keeps making noises about running for elected office someday soon. I wish him well but I also think he's nuts to get into politics these days.

Steroids and women = catastrophe. Some men might be able to get in and out without permanent damage (although we won't know for another decade or so since large numbers of abusers are only now reaching middle age), but with women it is very easy to affect yourself for all time.

They are doing some research at City of Hope, looking at the number of men w/ a history of steroid use developing Hodgkins and Non Hodgkins Lymhoma more that the general population. Pretty much looking at guys who did more than 5 years of cycles no less than 10 years ago, so we may be seeing some of the long term effects.

That is very interesting. I will be watching over the next 10-15 years as the current wave of track athletes retire. I wonder what sort of health problems they will have, as it is more or less understood that to reach the elite international level, drugs are a part of the program. Some athletes take more than others, but probably nearly everyone takes something. I am not sure that the human capacity to exists to fling yourself down a track at 30 m.p.h, or to train to do such a thing.

I have no proof for this, but I have always wondered about the untimely death of Florence Griffith-Joyner, and whether it was connected to past drug use. She set records in the 100 and 200 meters in 1988 that no one has approached since, nor will for many years. She made a sudden extreme drop in time, and then retired just as random drug testing began for track athletes. It is pretty obvious that she loaded herself up with everything but the kitchen sink, and ran times that a male would be very proud of. Then she died in her sleep a few years ago. Very sad.

Will Arnold arrest Willie Neson for smoking reefer? Willie didn't quit in the '70s.

I really hate it when people assume the 3 or 4 people they know make up the world.

And you wouldn't even care that tons of people who used to use pot are doctors, lawyers, business owners ( successful ones) stock brokers, engineers and good parents. That's MY circle of friends that smoked pot and did other things when younger.

And don't denegrate walmart greeters.. most are senior citizens who need those jobs thanks to their families who obviously are not providing help, and to the Gov. for squanering the SSMoney rather than treating it like private retirement and giving them an amount of money they could actually live on.
