Schwarzenegger Admits He 'Did Inhale'

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) – Despite his political aspirations, Arnold Schwarzenegger has told the director of the documentary that launched his career to not delete scenes that might damage his future career.

A new, digitally-enhanced version of George Butler's acclaimed 1977 documentary "Pumping Iron," with added features, is being released this week. The film followed a then mostly-unknown Austrian-born Schwarzenegger as he prepared to defend his Mr. Olympia title and featured the bodybuilder smoking a marijuana joint and telling the camera stories about his life that have since been proven untrue.

"I would refuse to wipe out that record or change it or alter it because of image's sake," Schwarzenegger told the Associated Press. "That would not be true to the filmmaker."

In the film, Schwarzenegger tells a reporter that he didn’t go to his father’s funeral because he couldn’t miss a competition. The actor admits today that that was a lie.

"The way to get headlines, to promote the sport, was to make outrageous statements," he explains.

As for the joint he smokes in the film; "I did smoke a joint and I did inhale," he says. "The bottom line is that's what it was in the '70s, that's what I did. I have never touched it since."

After winning the competition Schwarzenegger turned his attention towards acting, starring in action films "Conan the Barbarian" and "The Terminator." Today at 55, he’s working on the third installment of "The Terminator," titled "T3: Rise of the Machines."

"I lived a certain life, I want everyone to know that's the life I lived. As you grow up and as you become more mature, those things change," he says. "The only one that's perfect is God."

Does he wear boxers or brief?

Note: When Newt Gingrich was asked this question, he answered irritably - That was a stupid question!
Clinton giggled and answered.

I met Arnold a few years before he became famous. Nice guy.

Over the years he has said many times that a lot of the stuff he said in Pumping Iron was "BS".

You talking to me ? I heard that the PCP that was going around in the 70's was made from horse tranquilizer.

I saw the movie Pumping Iron. The guy is really smart. Not so much at an intellectual level, but more of an instictual level. I was impressed. He is very positive and charming.

At least he has the guts to say what he did, and to admit he lied.....Something Slick Willy would not do!

I have to question the man's taste, though! He married into the Kenndey mafia!

I think "horse medicines" refers to Equpoise, a medicine that is used for underfed horses that need to gain weight, it is quite popular with bodybuilders, however really did not make an appearance in the states until early 1980's.

I agree. He was a young guy when he did that. Everyone makes mistakes. Besides the fact that his seedy past will go over great with those california dreamers.

A journalist's daughter asked BJ Clinton that question. They had plotted at the kitchen table to ask a "good" question. She was going to ask about drug legalization but the handlers wanted a lighter question from her at the "town hall" meeting on MTV.

The story behind the story. None of the MTV charade offered any reality or depth because the audience was prescreened for leftist synchophants and even then their questions were screened.

Well, it would be a bit difficult to dissimulate on the issue - anyone who saw the original movie will recall Ah-nolt lying on his stomach, working on a tan and taking a hit off a joint that would make an industrial Hoover proud. "I didn't inhale" would have been kind of a tough sell...

Well, I've never met him. (Nor am I ever likely to) I'm sure he's nice guy just as you say
I do seem to remember him making that statement about "Pumping Iron" though.
