Laredo physician donates JFK items
BY CELINA ALVARADO Times staff writer
Friday marked the 39Th anniversary of JFK's assassination, and in commemoration and celebration of JFK's accomplishments, and as a tribute to conspiracy theorists, Laredoan Dr. Reynaldo Godines donated books, DVDs, videos, and calendars to the Laredo Public Library, Saturday.
The two books, a VHS series, calendars and the two DVD movies all provide tremendous research on the conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of JFK.
The two donated books include Crossfire-The Plot That Killed Kennedy, a New York Times bestseller written by Jim Marrs, and Bloody Treason - The Assassination of John F. Kennedy written by Noel Twyman.
The two controversial books, Bloody Treason, and Crossfire, will be available in the reference section of the Public Library.
Godines said he holds great respect for the late president because he "truly had a vision for global peace."
"John F. Kennedy does not get the credit that he deserves, if Kennedy had not made a peace effort, the world would have been destroyed as a result of nuclear war," he said.
Godines believes that JFK was assassinated by a collection of people who were ignorant of the greatness behind his search for global peace and hence believed they were doing the world some good by assassinating him.
Godines also donated to the library a VHS series that was put together by the BBC entitled "The Man Who Killed Kennedy."
Godines claims that the series portrays a national computerized picture that shows an assassin on the grassy knoll wearing a badge and shooting the president.
Two DVD movies were also donated to the Laredo Public Library. The movies are 13 Days, and JFK, both of which explore the conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of the late John F. Kennedy.
Godines said that those who wish to view the materials located in the reference area of the Laredo Public Library will receive a free calendar.
The calendar depicts pictures of both book covers and an American flag bearing the faces of John and Robert Kennedy and J. Edgar Hoover.
"It was the movie, 13 Days, that inspired me to make this calendar," said Godines.
The 2003 calendar is decorated with powerful quotes taken from the now difficult to find novel, "Bloody Treason," and bears the following bible quote: "Know the truth and the truth shall set you free."
That is the message that Godines hopes will get through to the public after they approach the newly donated material with what he hopes will be an open mind.
"The public should come to the library to read some true history so knowledge can make them stronger and the truth will be known," he said.
"As with anything else, Godines stated that it is important to draw our own conclusions from the material.
"I believe that if we have more educated people in our democracy, tragedies such as that of the assassination of presidential candidates will never happen again," he said.
The doctor equates "education" with morality. He also believes in "our democracy," a term missing from the Constitution of the United States. Why is it today that so many use this term "our democracy," and not just liberals either.
