And how did it become their mascot?

I'll be teaching at OSU starting this summer. After years of watching Ivy football, it'll be nice to see real games.
My first year in grad school at Princeton it was Princeton vs Dartmouth. I went wi' a friend who did his undergrad at Florida State. I tried to warn him what Ivy football was like, but he wouldn't believe me, insisting 'football is football.'
Opening play: Dartmouth kicks, it goes through the Princeton receivers legs....
Actually, I won a battle against the Princeton football coach. I was teaching summer calculus, and my students were late because of a football practice. It didn't bother me, as I gave my class a pop quiz, and said there would be a pop quiz ANY day someone showed up late, and late arrivers do not get extra time.
My football players were never late again!

I didn't know they were poisonous.
I see the squirrels toting off with 'em from the nearby park for the last 4-5 weeks. So far I haven't seen any squirrel skeletons in the trees.

Congradulations to an excellent Buckeye team for going undefeated this season... Miami has two tough games remaining on their schedule. The 'Canes better concentrate on beating Syracuse this week and not OSU or else they won't play
for the title.

Oh, and what is a Buckeye anyways, is it some kind of bean? I always think of them as the Ohio State Deer Eyeballs. Not sure why...it started when I was a kid.

Pitt could be the best team Miami has faced all year long.
And you're right, Miami best not look past Syracuse, or they will get stung in the Carrier Dome. And they better beware of Tech too. I have a sinking feeling that they're going to lose one of those 2.

And we, the University of Miami faithful look forward to humiliating you like we did the Nebraska goobers were last year. So enjoy Tempe. It's a fun place to party, like New Orleans, Miami, and Pasadena (all places we know very well). But at the end of the day, please remember that crying towels will be available in the parking lot from your favorite vendor. This will be another ring for us, and another humiliation for Midwestern football. God it's good to be in Florida, where football is played 21st Century style and not like it was in the 1950's.

Actually, the goal posts held up very well. I was disappointed at the people throwing clods of dirt at the police around the goal posts.
But I'm glad I don't live around campus.
Oh, but
WHAT A GAME!!!

Great game. I got so nervous on the last play, I had to turn it off and then turn it back on when it was over. (I don't handle pressure well.) Thank goodness the Bucks did what they had to do.

That reminds me....am I supposed to actually remove that U of M flag from my gas guzzline SUV and wash it or keep the streak alive for one more season and let my truck stay dirty until January 5? I love seeing that helmet, it smells like,

You know how to get the Fiesta Bowl smack started by insulting Midwestern football!
Just remember Dorsey and company must barely sqeak by titans like Syracuse and Pitt before they earn their way to Tempe.

It seems that the teams who played against Miami last year (ie..the Coker/Chud/Shannon coached 'Canes) have given the 'Canes their toughest battles this year. Pitt gave the 'Canes all they could handle but so did Florida State as well as West Virginia. Even lowly Rutgers was ahead of Miami in the fourth quarter. However, national powerhouse teams like Florida and Tennessee, who did not face the Coker/Chud/Shannon led 'Canes last year, were dominated by Miami...
If my theory holds, then expect both Syracuse and Virginia Tech to give Miami two more stiff challenges..
