President Bush is to speak in Revolution Square (I believe) in a few minutes. There are upwards of 100,000 people there to hear him waving American flags and cheering. The First Lady came in moments ago to a huge ovation, Powell is there as well.
Should be good...waiting enthusiatically.

This makes me so proud of my eastern european heritage.

There are few places in the world where President Bush couldn't get a better reception than Berkeley. What a sh-thole.
To: friendly
People from Eastern Europe tend to be very pro-American and anti-Communist. They are a good people.

$35 billion to help friends is much better than $35 billion to fight enemies...jmho.
To: mitchbert
What exactly did he say regarding Russia? Thanks.
To: SamAdams76
I recall that their Bill and Hillary's received a less cordial reception as they "left" office.

Welcome, friend. Believe it or not, I still have my newspaper from that fateful day in 1989 and the Christmas Day edition as well. With God's help, Saddam can soon join Cheauchescheau (sorry if I've forgotten how to spell the b******'s name) in the lower regions of hades.

You have seen the feeling of romanians for America . What are the feelings of americans towards romanians and Romania ?
God Bless America and Romania !
... sorry for the previous mistake ! :-)
To: Licinius
I'd say the feeling is mutual. In fact, I'd say most Americans think much more highly of the Eastern European countries than they do of the Western European countries these days, particularly Germany and France.
Eastern Europeans appear to put a greater value on freedom and are not as concerned about bashing the US all the time.
The US and Romania...a good partnership that could last a long time.

Yeah. But the Communists still run Berkeley and have yet to be deposed there.Q: What's the difference between the United States and Romania?
A: Romania no longer has a communist party.

$35 billion to help friends is much better than $35 billion to fight enemies...jmho. Amen to that!
Besides, they will likely be buying the weapons systems from American manufacturers.

Welcome to FreeRepublic! What a great day for celebrating freedom.
To answer your question with a (little) joke: Most Americans don't think of Romania at all.
Most Americans don't think often about any other countries. And the educational system here has propagandized for the past fifty years against telling the true horror stories of Soviet domination. So unless someone has a personal connection with an eastern European country, very little is widely known about your history or present situation, sadly.
You sure know how to fill a Square to honor our President! WOW! The photos still bring tears to my eyes!
