The Bush administration wants to grant amnesty to hundreds of thousands of Mexican illegal aliens now in the United States, according to the new U.S. ambassador to Mexico.
Tony Garza, sworn in this week at the White House, told reporters in Mexico City that reaching an accord legalizing the status of Mexican immigrants

You gotta link to those details?
Where is it mentioned anywhere that Bush is contemplating "getting rid of 85% of the established illegal aliens and 100% of the illegals with less than ten years here?"
We have been down the "Amnesty now, enforcement later" road before. I'm not interested in an overt handshake promise, let alone a divined one.
I, too, hope you are a columnist and can get it out. There are some well-meaning people in this country who are still beliveing this and they need to be told the truth.
Thanks so much.
You are flat out wrong in your assertation...I can take you to two industries in my area that haul 'em up from Mexico on a regular basis...
The middle class still exists and always will.
You must live a very sheltered life...Of course the middle class are dropping like flies...The jobs are going...Who doesn't know that???
Many in our low end workforce have found it more lucrative to collect from government programs than to go to work everyday.
And who would blame them??? "Low end" jobs are not for people with families to support...So the question is, Why are there grown people available to take these low end jobs away from high school and college kids??? Do you know the answer??? I do...
Who was doing it before they came? Of course white people are maids in hotels.
Now to the farm workers - if this cheap labor, subsidized by taxpayers, was not available - there would be some advances in mechanical harvesting of a lot of these fruits and vegetables. This will never happen as long as the government imports workers for them and forces taxpayers to subsidize them.
They are not needed - this is just a fallacy. We must get over that. Put that out of our minds - it is goverment propaganda - pure and simple. Propaganda bought and paid for by the greedy employers.
This is what is most troubling -- OFFICIAL policy straight from the Bush White House which actually REWARDS and SANCTIONS the invasion of U.S. borders.
This crap is just being phased a bit to keep the lid on the simmering Republican base.
The American lifeboat is full sinking.
This is a Trojan Horse. Havn't we realized if you give them an inch, they backstab you and take your country. Look at this, first we ignore the law and let them come here, then they're an underclass and we have to give them legal status. Gee whats the next step going to be? They wiill come out and say "Hey, we're here legally, we work, but we aren't citizens or given the right to vote, this is racism". This is a giant con-job. First step is to legalize, then they'll claim thats discrimination/underclass and demand citizenship. They are making a mockery of our laws and our sovereignty. No matter what the propaganda is, we don't need a horde of uneducated, illegal immigrants cashing welfare checks.
This cannard is soooo old - and false.
Who did all the work before the massive influx of illegal aliens since 1965? Hmmmm? Read this.
The trouble is that intelligent Americans refuse to do the work for the low wages illegals will accept or under the poor conditions that illegals are willing to work.
Dishonest business owners will hire the illegals, not to lower the prices on their products or services, but to expand their own profits. The dirtbags who will break the law and commit a federal offense and hire illegals typically charge the same as the honest business owners who choose to obey the law. These dirtbags are illegaly cutting their costs to expand their profits and our nation is suffering because of it.
The Hollywood left? It is the American right companies who are pushing for this. If it is the left, why then is President Bush pushing it and has been since he took office. If not for 9/11, he might have already gotten it done. You can't blame this on the left - put the blame where it is supposed to be - one both parties - but greatly on the shoulders of President Bush as he is now in charge.
I will never, never call an illegal worker - made legal, by our government - a 'guest worker'. Do you realize what you do for a guest - you provide them with a place to sleep, food to eat, and in general try to make them comfortable. I have no intention of doing that for low-cost workers just so chicken producers and construction companies and rake in a huge amount of money.
How are we going to identify thee workers? Who is going to decide who needs to stay? Who is going to monitor this? Are we going to send the families home? Are we going to make employers responsible for the cost taxpayers are now paying? The problem is in the huge numbers - the huge costs to taxpayers - the rise in crime - etc. Temporary work permits do not answer those problems.
Please don't be fooled by this approach.
There is even a broad guest worker program for all sorts of workers, which includes the H1B visas as well as the less well known H2A (temporary farm workers) visas and even H2B visas for non-agricultural workers. Want one? You can get them online: Visas for everyone! .
The point is THIS: The laws aren't being enforced!!
Why bother getting a visa if you can just walk in and ignore the laws?
Bad idea.
If you think the citizens are restless now...
This is probably the clearest sign that leadership is out of touch with the mood of the citizens.
This issue is part of what ails this country big time; Amnesty will make things worse. Lots worse.
