This speech by James Woolsey, former CIA director, appeared on the San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center site today:

I thought it was interesting and worth posting, but the source should be considered since a web search doesn't find any further references to it.

Personally, I count the Seven Years War as WWI, the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars as WWs II and III.

That puts the Great War as WWIV, and the other Great War as WWV.

So if we count the Cold War as WWVI, we're up to WWVII.

"The other one, in some ways may be even harder. We have to do two things simultaneously here -- nobody told us it was going to be easy. We have to fight successfully in the United States against terrorist cells and organizations that support terrorism and we have to deal with the extremely difficult fact that some of these are, at least, superficially religiously rooted in one aspect anyway of Islam. We have to understand that the vast majority of American Muslims are certainly not terrorists and are not sympathetic to them. But that there are institutions and individuals and there are institutions and individuals with a lot of money that are effectively part of the infrastructure that encourages and supports the hatred of the West of capitalism and of us that is manifested in terrorism."

Fatuous nonsense.

As I have repeatedly pointed out, we should have declared war on 9/12. We should have revoked the visas of all citizens of terrorist nations. We should have rounded up and deported all illegal aliens--no matter where from.

We should have placed National Guard at the borders, with real ammo in their weapons. We should have begun detailed background checks on "naturalized citizens" from terrorist nations (one of the hijackers was a 'citizen').

After these obvious and prudent measures, we should have created a 'super Mossad' (or perhaps farmed it out to the real Mossad) and terrorists should have been dying in the night--silently and en masse, with their families. No mercy, no quarter, no prisoners.

And--if another outrage of the scale of 9/11 were perpetrated, we should have begun by nuking Tehran, Baghdad, Riyadh, Islamabad...and Mecca and Medina, for good measure.

World War IV? A joke. We have forgotten what was is, and the Arabs will be only too happy to re-educate us.

This is perhaps the single most succint statement of why we are where we are in the War on Terror. I especially like the fact that he indicated that we were a paper tiger during his boss' administration - that's honesty, and such honesty is about 100% correlated to the fact that he will never run for elective office.

Now if only the PC crowd can begin to understand (/oxymoron) everything Woolsey said in this piece....

I have only one quibble with Mr. Woolsey: This is not World War IV; it is World War I. It started in 632 AD.

The Wahhabi Cleric interviewed by the Washington Post gives the proof:
"Well, of course, if you’re a Christian, I hate you."

He tried to assassinate former President Bush in 1993 in Kuwait.

So said the former Kuwaiti Ambassador in the US (you know, the guy whose daughter gave false testimony before Congress -- at the invitation of leftist Tom Lantos -- that Iraqis were ripping Kuwaiti babies from incubators.) Yeah, this guy's real credible. No axes to grind there. But that is how it is with conventional wisdom: no one bothers to challenge it to get to the truth. Y'all believe what you want...

In 1983, they blew up our embassy and our marine barracks in Beirut. What did we do? We left.

We had no business being there in the first place. If we had listened to the wisdom of our Founders and steered clear of conflicts that do not concern us, those Marines would be alive today. Reagan was a hero for recognizing the futility of keeping our troops in ratholes like Lebanon!

Maybe it's a web hoax, made up by some bloger.

Or maybe it's being ignored by the major media because it makes sense.

"In 1983, they blew up our embassy and our marine barracks in Beirut. What did we do? We left."

Woolsey's theme is the war against fascism. In those Reagan years the fascists in Argentina attacked the British sheep farmers in the Falklands. But we supported the fascists and the allied narco-trade throughout South America. Why couldn't Reagan respond appropriately to the murder of our Marines? Was it because we were to focused on narco-trade turf wars in south of us?

Instead of taking on the real war and the real enemies -- we ran some mix of the modern version of the Prohibition Untouchables and Rum-Runners expanded to the whole hemisphere -- on which we played both sides. Instead of Bin Laden (and antecedants) we took out Noriega.

At best, it was like mopping the floor while the river was flooding instead of filling sandbags, etc.
