EAST PETERSBURG, Pa. -- A 25-year-old Lancaster County business went up in flames Thursday as fire quickly engulfed part of a beer distribution business in East Petersburg.
At one point, flames could be seen from one-half mile away, and exploding beer cans were flying out of the roof.
The fire destroyed Bear Beer Distributor offices. Both floors of the offices are now completely burned out.
The two-alarm fire did very little damage to the rest of the building, including the warehouse.
Employees said the fire started about 12:45 p.m. They first heard a crackling sound, and the fire spread quickly.
Four people were inside the offices when the fire started. They reportedly tried to put out the fire with two fire extinguishers, but couldn't stop the flames.
"It was just engulfed in smoke right away, flames everywhere. The beer started flying, but we ... called 911 first and got all the cars out of the way and got everybody safe," employee Deb Logue said.
The fire is still under investigation, but employees believe it was an electrical problem. There is no word on a damage estimate.
Who'd want it? Warm beer's bad enough, but hot...?
We are being attacked at the core of our society.
Ahgeeez...
