"New voters who choose to register by mail must provide proof of identity at some point in the process, whether at initial registration, when they vote in person or by mail. Among the kinds of acceptable forms of identification: utility bill, government check, bank statement, or drivers license."

Other than in very rare cases, why are people allowed to register by mail at all? And it seems to me that if you can register by mail, you could as easily support a false identity by mail. Looks like an inherent weakness in the fix to me. Same would go for proof of citizenship by mail.

Go to my link in #126 and read Bond's remarks. He covers this in detail, in many different links there. What is important here, IMO, is the Federal Crime provision. These crimes can now be prosecuted on the federal level. I guess they had to give in to some concessions by Democrats. I agree with you about false identity, especially with a "utility bill"....nuts!

What I read into the Republican efforts to stop vote fraud is this: Help people to vote but slam the door if they cheat. This is the best possible outcome when Democrats had control of the senate. Voting has been cleaned up somewhat. Without the national efforts after 2000, we would have lost the senate and probably the house, IMO.

With the FBI involved now, there has got to be evidence out there of fraud. Will they prosecute? If not, their words will ring hollow in the future!
