Christianity has no shortage of terrorists [Barf Alert]
Orlando Sentinel ^ | Published November 17, 2002 | Mike Thomas

Osama bin Laden uses the Islamic faith to justify his nationalist, anti-Western political agenda.

It is an old religious ploy, one that Muslims were on the receiving end of during the Crusades.

Pope Urban II used love of Jesus and hatred of Muslims to motivate his troops at the beginning of the Crusades. Urban actually called Muslims "infidels."

Political leaders often wear religious disguises and exploit hatred in pursuit of their goals.

This brings me to the leaders of the religious right in this country.

First of all, the Crusades occurred almost 1000 years ago. Yes, they were awful. I find that what they did to Jews was far more heinous that what they did to the fighting Arab and Turkish armies. In many ways, the justification of the first crusade, the one specifically called for by Pope Urban II, was the growing threat of Islam to the Christian world, which was not very stable a the time. Atrocities were committed by both sides.

Today, we see relatively little Christian violence in the name of God. Where it is present, it is often defensive to counter, guess what, the threat of Islam.

Yes, medieval Christians often engaged in persecution and murder. There are still lunatic fringe "Christian Reconstructionists" who would engage in persecution and murder if they had the power to do so.

The bottom line is that Western Civilization does not permit the lunatic fringe to wield such power, and punishes individuals who commit crimes in the name of Jesus, while Moslem theocracies have failed to place their own mad dogs under similar control.

And in the ultimate absurdity, Jimmy Swaggart calls Muhammad a "sex deviant." Why are they doing this?

Apparently this idiot has never read hadiths which describe Muhammed marrying a six year old and consummating the marriage at 9 (or 10) as well as Muhammed's legendary preoccupation with sex with his numerous wives and concubines. He was a violent slut.

This calls for a BARF ALERT disclaimer. Newbie deference granted -- and I appreciate the heads-up: nice to know what the idiots are writing about.

Ok. I get it. A barf alert means that whatever the article says is so stupid it just has to be exposed but I'm just the exposer.

Yeah, I see.

Thanks!!!

Mr. Thomas:

Find me Christians today who are advocating conversion or death. Even if you manage to find a few wackos, the vast majority of Christians will cry out and condemn that action.

Muslims who want to destroy the infidels and "The Great Satan" (the U.S.) number in the thousands, if not millions. Where is the great Islamic "religion of peace" cry against those actions?

"They are taking Christianity, based on the peaceful and tolerant teachings of Jesus, and turning it into a hate cult."

Uh, I don't think so, Mr. Thomas. Your ignorance of Christianity and Jesus is showing. Jesus IS God, and he doesn't tolerate anything. He paid the price for all our transgressions. You either accept that or reject it.

"Do you believe that a woman who does not marry as a virgin should be dragged to her father's door and stoned to death?

That's in Deuteronomy."

Yes, it is. It is a punishment for immorality and fraud. Evidently Mr. Thomas wouldn't be able to live in a world that didn't allow fraud and immorality.

(I fear what will happen in this country after the next terrorist attack. If we fall victim to Robertson's tactics, this nation could be torn apart with religious hatred.)
The above for you people that didn't read the article ....we need a crusade against this infidel. Remember THE ENEMY IS WITHIN!

Bad getting worse! I used to read Thomas' column, but I will not again. It has progressively gotten worse, this is the last straw.

Political leaders often wear religious disguises and exploit hatred in pursuit of their goals.

So do left-wing editors like Thomas.
