Christianity has no shortage of terrorists [Barf Alert]
Orlando Sentinel ^ | Published November 17, 2002 | Mike Thomas

Osama bin Laden uses the Islamic faith to justify his nationalist, anti-Western political agenda.

It is an old religious ploy, one that Muslims were on the receiving end of during the Crusades.

Pope Urban II used love of Jesus and hatred of Muslims to motivate his troops at the beginning of the Crusades. Urban actually called Muslims "infidels."

Political leaders often wear religious disguises and exploit hatred in pursuit of their goals.

This brings me to the leaders of the religious right in this country.

Sir, I am not on their side!!!

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I wanted to expose the article. It's vile and full of lies. I was hoping you all would feel the same and write the editor.

The difference is that you can find a handful of examples of "Christians" behaving this way -- in violation of the Bible. But, Muslims always behave this way -- as commanded by the Qu'ran --and have throughout the history of Islam.

You've only posted their damn contact info a dozen times.

Why bother? I'd never send them anything let alone the satisfaction of saying the column is garbage -same ole useless lies dredged up again.

On the other hand, it sounds like President Bush and Powell lately.

In fact, the crusades were a DEFENSIVE war against, guess who, Muslims?

By Thomas F. Madden, the author of A Concise History of the Crusades and coauthor of The Fourth Crusade, is associate professor and chair of the Department of History at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri:

The crusades were in every way a defensive war. They were the West's belated response to the Muslim conquest of fully two-thirds of the Christian world.

He is a liberal, blame America first, Christian hating creep. His words are unworthy of reading. To equate the gentle teaching of Christ with the murderous preachings of Mohammed (child molester, thief, terrorist, murderer) who taught that it was permissible to murder infidels who refused to convert, that it was okay to lie to infidelsm, that it was next to impossible for women to enter heaven) is not only an insult, it is slander.

But as everyone knows, the left tolerates everything. As long as you don't disagree with them.

Yes, Muslims need to reclaim their religion from the extremists who have hijacked it. But so do Christians.

When Jerry Falwell flies an airplane full of innocents into a building and kills thousands, I’ll take the writer’s point seriously.

Calling people “intolerant names” is not comparable to killing people by the thousands over religious differences. If it was, Jay Leno would be Hitler.

It's understandable that the "hand-wringers" are searching for validation in our war on terror. However, this is a sad article for showing moral equivalencies.

1) Abortion clinic bombings aside (which most Christians denounce), unprovoked acts of terror by western, Christian cultures occurred hundreds of years ago in a less civilized age. Indeed, Christianity felt free to wage war on the Arab world because the Arab world felt free to wage war on Christendom (it's far more complicated than this, I know). Christianity and western culture are far more civilized today. However, the Arab world has not grown in 1500 years.

2) You have never seen Christians anywhere cheer over the dead bodies of innocents. In fact, Christians denounce such acts even when they occur to people who wish them ill. There are far too many examples to cite of Muslims dancing in the streets over the murder of innocents (9/11 is one of the most vivid). Even if they don't participate in the dancing, finding a Muslim leader to even denounce the actions of Muslim terrorists is difficult.

3) In the world today, there are many religious/cultural camps. Of the many major conflicts currently raging, 90% of them are between Muslims and someone else... many of them initiated by the Muslims through insurgency. You don't find Christians waging war with anyone in the name of Christianity.

4) Offend a Christian and he works to persuade you. Offend a Muslim and you are targeted for death. See Salmon Rushdie, many of the modern televangelists and numerous others for examples.

To say there is any equivalence at all between Muslim terrorism and Christianity at any time in history is a stretch. To say it in the modern world is a bald-faced lie.

"So, since any pimply-faced journalism student could verify Al Gore’s embrace of the Westboro Baptist Church, why hasn’t this been covered as extensively?"

As a Greek Orthodox Christian this item requires another perspective. The Orthodox Church was also affected by the Crusades (the 4th). This comparison between Islam and Christianity and the Crusades and Al Qaida is bogus however. The Bible never supported the behavior of the Crusaders, the Koran on the other hand...
