VERSAILLES, Darke County | A man apparently drowned Monday when his tractor slid into a manure lagoon at a dairy farm, the Darke County sheriffs office said.
Scott A. Winner, 36, of 12620 Willowdell Road, Versailles, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies, Osgood Fire and Rescue, and Fort Loramie Rescue units were called to the farm at 14171 Willowdell Road in northern Darke County about 10:10 a.m. on a report of a person trapped in a tractor.
It is believed that the victim was repositioning the tractor and aerator equipment when the tractor and aerator accidently slid into the lagoon according to the sheriffs office.
Relatives and farm workers tried to rescue Winner before emergency workers arrived, but they could not get him out because of the force applied to the outside of the tractor cab by the liquid, according to the sheriffs office.
The tractor sank until only the roof of the cab was visible, deputies said.
Deputies said fire and rescue personnel were able to remove Winner from the tractor 29 minutes after their arrival on the scene.
Steve Foster, an agricultural extension agent with the Ohio State University Extension office in Darke County, said Winner owned and operated a family dairy farm with his brothers.
I think its designed for 600 head of dairy cattle. Im not sure how many theyre milking, Foster said.

I believe the case you're speaking of actually happened in Western Oklahoma -- near LaVerne. Guy was driving a tanker, transferring sludge on a hog operation from a malfunctioning lift station to the lagoon.
Apparently slid into the lagoon on his last trip of the day. Everybody else went home and nobody missed him until he and the truck didn't show up the next morning. They eventually found the tire marks at the lagoon...and knew the awful truth.
They had to pump out the lagoon in order to recover the truck and ol' Joe Bob...
Not a pleasant story...
No, thank you. I have cement structures. Much safer, IMO.
But, I defend your right to say it...
