Here is the winning entry in the Economist Shell essay contest. My entry is linked
here , if you wish to compare.
For amusement, you may read the other (2nd & 3rd place) entries at www.shelleconomistprize.com/ . They prove this essay is truly the best of the lot. If political correctness causes you to barf, consider this your barf alert.

I notice there have been no responses to this. I presume it is because so many do not like this excellent description of the paranoid pantywaists most Americans have become.
Freedom is dangerous. If there is no danger in your life, you are no longer free.
Thanks for the post.

I like it but you arent going to get many responses...
1. The attention span of the average neocon is too short to read this whole article.
2. It points out the Patriot act and Homeland Security for the dangerous legislation that they are.

We are in the process of selling our freedom for a crust of bread from the likes of Slick Willie and Hildabeast. Maybe the young men and women of courage from preceding generations have been thinned out to the point that America no longer has enough courageous people to stand against the sinister forces at work in the world of today. Sadly I must now add Colin Powell to those sinister forces after his pronouncement concerning importing more Muslims into this nation.

The Economist is so worried that someone might steal this work that they copyrighted it in 2003. Now, that's overreacting.
